That's a bummer that "only 8 people in line" is a good thing.  I only own about 10 firearms, but every time I was never worse than the 4th person in line over the years.  Well, it's good I guess that sales are up, but bad until HPD changes the procedures.  Waiting to exhale....
I picked up 6 over the last 12 months and the worst line had me 5th or 6th, but only waited about 5 min. before one of the guys came out to ask who was picking up permits which I was so I didn't even stay in that line.

Possible suggestion to HPD Firearm Registration Department to help speed up processing.  Use the second glass window in the lobby area (the window to the right of the Police Report Pick-Up Window) for paperwork-only transactions like permits and use the current Firearm Registration Room for processing of actual firearms?  Just a thought.
That makes too much sense...now get back in line

I've registered guns on the big island before and it's nice because just about every police station handles registration and there is no window or anything in Kona you actually just bring it inside and they laid on the desk and they check it out. in Hilo they check it out in the lobby and have you case your firearm before you go inside the records office.  And the longest I've ever had the weight was 45 minutes but they have multiple clerks and there's multiple locations to register your firearms. And I registered a firearm with my Honolulu permit in the big Island however you can't register a firearm in Honolulu with the big Island permit.....  :wtf: in the Big Island they bend over backwards so that you can register your with ease... damn I miss it!!!

When I first moved over to the Big Island I took all of my guns to the Hilo office and it took about an hour to get everything typed up. There was only one clerk in there that day. But it was still a somewhat pleasant experience considering the circumstances. The officer came out into the lobby and had me uncase all my firearms and he and I went over all the makes/models/serial numbers and then I cased them all back up and waited.

Yes, Big Island has many options for registering firearms.  One time I went into Hilo and there were 2 people ahead of me.  The first guy had about 6 guns that he was importing from the mainland.  I didn't feel like waiting so I left and went to Pahoa instead on my way home.  No wait at all.  I feel for you guys and your situation but count myself lucky!
It is what it is.

They should do that.  First time I ever see KK, he'll probably be at the window registering one of his 5,000 firearms and I will think he's a sexual offendor.

Drove by there at around 6 am and saw a few people sitting on the bench just outside the glass doors.  Not sure what they were waiting for though.

I actually drive by there every morning on the way to work and only remembered to look as I went by this morning.

I feel like the panic buyers are finishing up on their panic buying. There were only 3 people standing out the door a little after 8am this morning.

Oh damn... is that second window currently used for sexual offender registration?!? I guess my idea wouldn't really work then...  :(

Yes amongst other things like records access.  They would probably ask to beef up the window too with bullet resistant glass and an area to pass the firearms under..........beef up the counter too.

Anywhoooooooooo..............wish me luck, I'm going later this morning.
