It was like that on Wednesday too. Went there 2:40. My friend did a pta and I registered, both sides had no line

Yesterday afternoon no line. Done in 10 minutes
In and out just like a robbery 

Went this morning to pick up permits.  Permit side had 3 in line when I got there shortly after 0800.  Couple people doing out of state, so took a little bit.  Was in/out in 10-15 mins. 

Walked by the application/paperwork side when I got there.  One person outside.  When I left, no line. 

What is the best time to go? Do they have all the forms, or do I have to print out my own before I go?

They have all the forms there.  However, recommend downloading and completing forms in the link Lihikai posted.  Note that if you are doing PTA, you will have to complete a hard copy.  The forms are serialized and you have to complete there (or used to).  Heard there was a new/alternate method, but haven't tried.

Best times for busy/free seem to be random.  I personally 1100-1400, which seems to get busy from folks going during their lunch break. 

For permit application side, I typically go when they open at 0800.  There may be a line when the open, but seems to clear quickly.  At least when I've gone in the past month.

For the regsitration side, seems like things backup a bit when folks register out of state.  Otherwise permit pickup and register seems to go quite quickly. 

i was there last wednesday..  Arrived at 4pm.  Needed:  Permit to acquire and CCW.  Was in and out in 20 minutes.  Very fast and very efficient.  Filled out paperwork ahead of time.  Had my $$$, forms, copies , etc etc etc.After i left had about 10 people in line

I was there yesterday (Tuesday) at noon. There was nobody in line or showed up the whole time I was on the permit to acquire side. Then I went to registration side to ask a question, and there was only 1 person ahead of me, and one person showed up as I was leaving. Super fast.

In line @12:45pm permit side, 5 in front of me, front of line got in after about 15 minutes

Out 2pm, had to fill out a few more forms under supervision…at least the officers’ are ensuring accuracy and nothing is missing.

I think either I'm getting slow, or I don't see the instructions on the HPD site, but what are the procedures for CCW renewal? Mine is coming up soon, and I am not sure if I need to re-do all the paperwork as I did the first time, or just partial. I don't see anything specific pertaining to CCW renewal, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have to do everything all over again.  Including taking a new pistol safety class(pay more) and CCW class (pay more).   and PAY MORE for the license.   They want to make it as cumbersome, painful, and expensive as possible to exercise your rights......

 Thank you for the reply. I'm not happy about the increase in costs across the board, but I'm not even sure they expect people to just give up, I'm pretty sure they know people will put up with that nonsense. I'm thinking, for them it's just another way to fatten up that piggy bank for the county, just like speeding tickets. jaywalking , etc.

Went for PTA yesterday around 4 pm and two people at the windows.  I wasn't waiting long and was there maybe 20 minutes.  There wasn't a line on the registration side.

The line is out the door 6 people behind me . Line has not moved for over 49 minutes.

No one at the application side at 0900. At the registration side, it looks like there was one person.

2/5:  11:40 AM  Permit pick up/ CCW pickup, Registration Side was real short.  Had a 3 minute wait, then got my PTA
