can someone please tell  the presidental motorcade to detour and  drive by HPD HQ next week...so that he can see the "short"  line of LEGAL gun owners.   We than can thank him and congratulate him for being the Firearms Salesman of the Year!!!   :o again!!!  Hana Hou  All the local gun stores should give him a ammo can and say "Thanks for a wonderfull end of year record sales"!!! :shaka:

That would be an awesome kick in the...  GUN SALESMAN OF THE YEAR 5 years running!

I was there about 11:00am to get my pistol permit, line stretched the length of the building. Guy came out after registering said he'd been there since 6:30, and it was taking an hour once you made it to the front. I just left disgusted. Gonna have my son stand in line early Monday till I can make it down there. Now i'm gonna have to stand in line twice more after that? :wtf:

Remember all those guys who went and cleaned out all the local gun stores now have to register within the by Monday or Tuesday, so expect really long lines.... Bring chairs, ice chest, coffee canisters and BBQ just in case you are there till lunch or maybe closer to dinner....

"a friend of mine" once forgot to go to the pd after picking up long gun
i owned up to it, and they kind of laughed and completed the paperwork
not sure how much in a laughing mood right now, but that's what i heard from my "friend"

I don't think that the law allows for such extensions legally.  Therefore, You and They are in non-compliance with the law as written.

But, IANAL, so what do I know...

Thats fucked up!

Because it is not a right, it is a privilege granted to you by this generous state. Now get back in line! We need you to register for safety.

I think in general we have some decent and understanding folks in the firearms division and they obviously knew by virtue that the "person" showed up, they simply forgot about the deadline. However, that being said, they could have said ignorance or intentional/unintentional non-compliance of the law (registration deadline in this case) is no excuse if they wanted to push it. No different than any other law. You may be right...they currently may not be in a laughing mood.

oops
ignore the word "I" in the second sentence
i am not talking about myself, this happened to "a friend"

note- the hpd people do have pretty good memories
they once asked "a friend" who had inquired about how to transfer a gun from a deceased parent months later if "my friend" ever completed the procedure to legally possess his/her parent's firearm

they are not bad people, they are probably more than a little overworked right now, but i've never had a problem with them
you are right that "i forgot" or not knowing is still illegal, but they are not out to jump all over someone for be a few days late, i would hope

Y'know, those guys behind the bulletproof glass cut us all a bunch of slack. I think that they are just happy to see someone comply with the law and if you are a little late...
well don't do it next time. And have you heard some of the dumb questions they have to field?
It is not their fault that they are spread thin. I would not want their job. You do it the management way and the public is after you and do it the way the public would like to see it, the management is after you. Thankless at best.

Agree...those guys are always friendly and have a smile. They are probably wondering if the line will ever get shorter themselves. They probably have a forum too with a thread "how's the line at HPD". ;D

If management has decided to maintain this status quo at window to slow the acquisiton of more firearms, they have succeded in my case. I have had to put off a purchase
'cause I gotta work for a living. I can't afford to spend that kind of time waiting in line. I mean I can sneak off for a couple hours, but not all day.
I will have to wait until the dust settles if it ever does and what I want to buy is still legal and if so available :(

It should settle eventually because the LGS will have no more inventory, unless someone buying out of state.

Who's talking smack? Seems like people are generally appreciative of the officers in the firearms unit. Yeah, many are blowing off steam at the general state of things, but hopefully everyone realizes that it had nothing to do with the officers themselves.

They don't make the laws, they don't make the policies, they don't have any control over gun sales. They are doing their jobs. In fact, I probably would have been yelling or laughing at some of the questions I've heard asked of them.

"Officer, I have a felony conviction, but can I get a rifle permit?" -facepalm

Whoa Nelly,  No one is talking shit about anyone in the firearms unit.    Not sure why you are getting offended.

Just talking shit about the archaic laws pressed on the subjects of Hawaii and suggestions on how to make changes for the betterment of all. That way, one day, the subjects can become citizens once again.
