Last week before ogc reopened after the holidays seemed to be the best time to go.  Now that they are open again it seems like its super busy in the morning and throughout the day.  According to these posts, if they are accurate, i would go in the late afternoon.  Hopefully missing the morning and lunch rush, hopefully.  If you camp out in the morning you can park at the blindside for a all day parking fee, or in the HPD lot and you dont feed the meter till 7am or so, or suppose to have another place across the street that has all day parking available.

Just drove past HPD. The line runs the length of the building toward Hale Makai Street (Diamondhead) and ends just before the end of the building before the accessible ramp/stairs to the sidewalk.

Went in yesterday.  Was going to go in the morning, but too much rain.  Ended up going at 2 PM.  Took 2 hours on the dot to get in, register a longun, and put in my applications for permit to acquire.

Officer Tan was there, haven't seen him in awhile.  He's kewl as always.

Passed by there on the way into work.  At around 5:45 am, there were a LOT of people waiting outside.  I could guess at least 40 people.

When I went in (this time, and the last, and the time before............) there are a lot of guys who are getting longun permit to acquire.  Lots of first timers getting printed.

Let's not forget our 3 step process as well.  If you think about it that way..............slow processing and multiple trips mean the lines are probably 2 to 3 times longer than they need to be.

Time limit on the meters are 2 hours.  If you are getting short on time, ask the guys to hold your spot to feed the meter.  Haven't been in a line yet where the guys there didn't help the others out.  Everyone knows they are in the same boat and are remarkably civil about the whole thing.

I believe you get 3 hours in that police/public lot right across from the board of water supply building. I was only able to get parking in the downstairs lot 1 time for my first handgun registration.
