This should surprise no one. Historically, all governments, including ours, have used national security and domestic safety policies to target political opponents.
First Lady Hillary Clinton famously coined the phrase "vast right wing conspiracy" to make he husband, Bill, out to be a victim of some faceless, undefined group. The same was done with the Russia-Collusion hoax. The unnamed Russians, and Trump because the Russian hackers supposedly supported his election, were a direct threat to our "Democracy" by way of election interference.
Then we had Ruby Ridge, where you never head "Randy Weaver" without the "White Separatist" label preceding his name. You also had the occasional "Militia" boogeyman thrown out as a threat over and over.
The government has been slowly increasing its rhetoric against White Supremacy and Domestic Terror as if it's running rampant in the streets. The Federal LE agencies place those loosely defined groups as the NUMBER ONE THREAT to Americans, yet we hear more about gang violence and related deaths daily than any White Supremacist groups killing anyone.
Once the groups and their "threat" are formalized, each of us is only a step away from being cast in that light as a threat to be dealt with. True or not, people still believe the FBI and other agencies in spite of the evidence they can't be trusted.
If you aren't on someone's radar, you aren't trying.
