It's really not that hard to find the facts.  Took me 15 seconds.

The bill was signed in 2018, and it was to become effective Jan 1, 2021.  Some articles state it's effective Dec 1 this year.

As for the purpose, it's like banning plastic straws.  I can still buy plastic straws and have them shipped here -- cheap, too.  Pure virtue signaling.  Not much science or earnest effort to tackle the problem.

You didn't answer my question at all. What would you suggest to reduce the mineral sunscreen usage?

Sure, people can ship things in but how many people are really going to do that instead of just buying non-mineral sunscreen? Its not like we are talking about an addictive substance, or fireworks, we are talking about sunscreen. And it wouldn't even be that hard to stop online shipments, remember when that turd got all those mainland companies to stop shipping magazines to Hawaii and most of them complied? Could easily do that for sunscreen if they wanted.

However, sunscreens were not mentioned in the UH study released Tuesday. “Of course, we want to protect the environment, we want to protect our precious coral reefs,” said Dr. Kevin Cassel, associate professor of the UH Cancer Center. “But we also want to be mindful of the risk for skin cancers.”
Cassel and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are calling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to perform an environmental risk assessment on sunscreens.

The associate professor said most studies have been done in laboratory settings versus real world environments.

“We don’t know what reef safe sunscreens are,” said Cassel. “There’s no criteria, there’s no regulation, there’s no oversight.”

“The report says that all UV filters need to be examined for their effect in the aquatic setting.”

In my opinion, Maui rushed legislation to ban a certain product, creating a void for another product to fill. Gee, I wonder who owns these new sunscreen formulations?

Maui's  decision certainly seems stupid to me. Ban both mineral and non-mineral sunscreens just leaves beach goers with nothing to use.

After skin cancer I tend to wear a long sleeve shirt into the water which both is better at preventing a sun burn and requires less sunscreen so thats a win win either way.

You should watch their counsels YT on their Taser ordinance.
