Anyone ever see purple fence posts or poles?
« on: October 29, 2022, 11:02:17 AM »
I read an article from iHeart.com explaining the meaning of purple fence posts.  They advise if you ever come across these to turn around and avoid that area.

Anyone ever see such a thing?  This was new to me, but appears to be common in at least 16 states.

I'll post a comment on what the article's explanation is.  Just wanted to see if anyone else knew about this "phenomenon."

Can't believe you no Google-Foo

Purple paint on fence posts carries the same legal significance as "no trespassing" signs in some states.
In WV, the marked posts or even trees must have clearly visible paint and that paint must be placed 3-5 feet from the ground.
Other states with purple paint rules to indicate property lines include Kansas, Arizona, Montana, Arkansas, Idaho, Florida, Maine, North Carolina, Missouri and Illinois.

If you live in Texas or some surrounding states, you may have seen a post or pole on the edge of someone’s property spray painted purple.
This isn’t just a choice in lawn decor, there’s actually a reason for it that you may not be aware of.
According to the Purple Paint Law, states like Texas allow landowners to paint a fence post or pole on the edge of their property purple to signify “No Trespassing.”
Why no signs? Some landowners might have signs, too, but acclimate weather has a tendency to knock those signs down.
Painted posts convey the same message without the fears of being knocked down.

I didn't need to Google it.  The article had plenty of facts and references, I trusted it's correct -- yes, I read beyond the headline (as usual when I'm curious).  I simply hadn't heard about this or seen any such fence posts in my life that I can recall.

I went to school at ECU.  Our mascot was The Pirates, and our colors were Purple and Gold.  Those colors were all over the town including fences around the school and businesses.

Maybe I'm just desensitized to purple fence posts?

I think you're ~80% correct about the "No Trespassing" message the poles convey.  The other 30% ( ;)) is to curtail unlawful hunting.

Quote
The regulations let would-be hunters know that the activity is prohibited in that area. It's an
important issue since there are over 1,000 hunting accidents each year that injure or kill
people. The purple posts help landowners keep their families, pets and animals safe. It's
so popular that there is a specific paint color used for it, aptly named "No Hunting Purple."

Well, I learned something today.  Never would have known what a purple fencepost or tree means.

If I saw it, I probably would have guessed it was a political statement or a code that only some groups would identify. ;)

Sorry, no article link was included in your post so I assumed you were posing a question and explanation.

Sort of taking a survey to see if others knew before I spoon fed the answer.   :shaka:

That's why I said I'd comment with the explanation after people chimed in.

Glad I'm not the only one.    :D

Maybe it started after I came to Hawaii, and it's not something that's been adopted here yet?

I like learning new things, but it seems something like this would have made the rounds several times, yet I never knew until now.

If nothing else, maybe I've prevented a trespassing in someone's future?    :geekdanc:

After learning what it's about, I'm surprised the Left Wing Whackos haven't been on Twitter sounding the alarm about this new White Supremacist symbol being used across woodlands and farms to notify other White Supremacists that they are welcome there!
