Nomar 1911 rear sight
« on: November 06, 2022, 06:50:39 PM »
I had my SA 1911 made over into a hardball gun by Dave Salyer but still wanted a Bomar sight. My SA is a loaded one years ago with a Novak cut so a Bomar sight would not drop in fit. Can be done with a reweld job but a good smith has to do it. Enter the Nomar sight by Bunker Arms https://www.bunkerarms.com/  Bought the sight and it was installed by a Marine armorer. https://kcskustomcreations.com/ The sight doesn't sit high or protrude like a Bomar. The Nomar appears more fused into the slide. Great work by a Marine...

Sweet!
What would a Nomar installation cost?
Sight +installation?

100 for sight and 100 for labor = 4 months of collecting recyclable cans and and bottles

Ren,

The Nomar rear sight look like it belongs there.

My Wilson Combat and Les Baer 1911 pistols all 4 of them have adjustable sights, and yours looks excellent.

Looks like the gunsmith inletted/machined the windage adjustment screw and the sight blade into the slide - looks real good.

When Dave Salyer worked on the 1911 it shot high so he dovetailed a new front sight. Now that the rear sight sits lower I may need to file the front sight? Im guessing at this time, cuz no range

Ren,

Can you post a picture of the front sight?

My 1911s are also "low mounted" so I can compare your front sights to mine, for a rough estimation on whether it would work.....   I can post a picture of my front sight height as it compares to yours.

I think your front sight will be fine.  The rear adjustable sight will compensate for any elevation/windage adjustments.
Maybe if the rear sight was fixed, then the front sight might have to be filed/shortened.

Ren,

Upon looking at your 1911, the front sight does look tall, but you can just crank up the rear sight.

Anyway, it depends what type of ammo you shoot, and you will have to take it to the range to sight it in......

I only shoot factory RN in 45 and 9mm, so my rear sight is cranked up pretty high..... must be the way I eyeball the sights.

I will likely file it down...whenever I can shoot it. I don't like the blockey look to it. I don't know how to add some artistic flare to it.
