I've avoided this, but you got me to watch #1 and 2.
Gratuitous violence.
So un-nerving for a Christian man such as my self.
And yes I'd be pissed about the dog.

You have the watch Chapter 3 before you watch #4, or little will make sense -- as much as anything in the story makes sense.

Each sequel goes deeper into the mythology of the High Table, Wick's past and origins as an assassin, the characters that Wick must deal with, and the "rules" they all must obey.

I really liked Halle Berry's German Shepherds, too.   

Berry:  "He shot my dog."

Reeves:  "I get it."
