if you get a base hit, and the ump calls you safe, is there zero chance on that same play that you are out?
sounds categorical to me

if he said "you may be safe" it would be not categorical...

“Safe” in baseball is a binary state… You’re either “safe” or you’re “out,” no degrees in between.

“Safe” with respect to COVID is a continuum.  Wearing a mask is likely to make you safer than not wearing a mask.  Getting vaccinated is likely to make you safer than not getting vaccinated.  Neither is a 100% guarantee against all infection, illness, or spread, and I still haven’t seen where he said it was.

Masks ARE protective.  They afford protection.  I didn’t hear him say they were perfectly 100% effective, and that if you wore a mask you had zero chance of contracting or spreading the virus.

None of those other statements make a categorical claim about the effectiveness of either masks or vaccines.  That video is just a compilation of him saying things that may be contradictory, like maybe he changed his message after getting more data on how the virus spreads and how effective the vaccines are over time.

"fully protected" is not a categorical claim of effectiveness???

then why didn't he say "realtively safe"???
or "safer"???

the covid czar, dr jha, stated this week that we would eliminate all covid deaths if everyone got the bivalent booster...

I don’t really disagree with anything you said until the end…. “Lying” requires knowing what you’re saying is untrue.  IF they didn’t know all of the specifics of how the vaccine would work and whether/when you’d need boosters to keep up with a rapidly mutating virus, that’s not lying, it’s being mistaken. In my experience, the scientists were pretty careful about using appropriate language… “Is likely to” or “will probably” or “may result in.”  Politicians and pundits weren’t so careful, and that’s what led to a lot of this back and forth and actual, real, misinformation taking root in people’s minds.  Did some people lie?  Probably, and that’s wrong, regardless of the motivation.  Is the vaccine part of some nefarious plot to kill off a significant portion of the world population (which seems to be the original point of this thread, as evidenced by the rumble movie linked above)?  I haven’t seen any real evidence of that.

Link?  Because the quote I found says “‘If you are up to date with your vaccines and if you get treated if you have a breakthrough infection, your risk of dying from Covid is now close to zero,’ Jha said.” (CNBC)

Where did you find that he said we could eliminate ALL COVID deaths?

And this is really a digression from the start of the thread, which seems to imply that there’s some vast increase in young people dying unexpectedly since the vaccine rollout.  I have yet to see that claim backed up with any data.

Still waiting for any data about an increase in sudden, unexpected deaths since the vaccine rollout…

Our public health numbers are so manipulated they are basically garbage, kinda like the military trying to pretending they don’t have a staffing/Tricare crisis

The best place to go for data is the insurance industry because ultimately they have to either dump the liability back on big pharma or go bankrupt.

When 2022 stats come out is probably when the heads start to roll.  Good luck getting a life insurance policy if you got stuck.

https://firstfactcheck.substack.com/p/claim-deaths-of-all-causes-increasing

Quote
Scott Davison CEO of OneAmerica, said deaths were up 40% among working aged people in 2021

Scott Davison, the CEO of OneAmerica, a $100 billion insurance company based in Indianapolis since 1877, said in an online news conference on December 30, 2021 that deaths were up 40% among working aged people since the pandemic began.

“We are seeing, right now, the highest death rates we have ever seen in the history of this business; not just at OneAmerica. The data is consistent across every player in that business. Now this is primarily working-age people 18 to 64, in the employers on the screen here. And what we saw just in third quarter, we’re seeing it continue into fourth quarter, is that death rates are up 40% over what they were pre-pandemic,” he said. “Just to give you an idea of how bad that is, a three-sigma or a one-in-200-year catastrophe would be 10% increase over pre-pandemic. So 40% is just unheard of. And what the data’s showing us is that the deaths being reported as Covid deaths are just a fraction of showing to us is that the deaths that are being reported as COVID deaths greatly understate the actual death losses among working-age people from the pandemic. It may not all be COVID on their death certificate, but deaths are up just huge, huge numbers.”

He said at the same time, the company is seeing an “uptick” in disability claims, saying at first it was short-term disability claims, and now the increase is in long-term disability claims.

“For OneAmerica, we expect the costs of this are going to be well over $100 million, and this is our smallest business. So it’s having a huge impact on that,” he said.

A 3-sigma (standard deviation) catastrophe would be a 10% increase; apparently 40% represents a 12-sigma catastrophe. An extremely unlikely event.

These extra deaths began after Covid vaccination began in mid-December 2020, with the first Pfizer shots.

Classic tactic.  “Government numbers can’t be trusted, but my feelings backed up by random anecdotes are the rock solid truth.”  One insurance guy says all-cause morbidity is up… during a pandemic.  When you can show actual numbers for sudden, unexpected deaths in 18-50 year-olds, that would be of interest and worth talking about.

Sure, that sounds sort of categorical.  I think that was an unfortunate choice of words for him to use, but in context, I get what he was saying.  Implying that one statement was telling people that vaccines were 100% protection against infection, illness, hospitalization, and/or death is, again, a bit of a stretch.

Do we have to walk you through it?

Concept #1:  If you are up to date with your vaccines and if you get treated if you have a breakthrough infection, your risk of dying from Covid is now close to zero

That's the statement YOU Googled.  For all intents and purposed, the risk appears to be so small, it's not even given in the quote.

Concept #2: ...we would eliminate all covid deaths if everyone got the bivalent booster

That's the paraphrased comment you're arguing against being real because nobody spoon-fed you a link.

How, exactly, is a near-zero death rate from Covid (caveats included) any different from "we would eliminate all covid deaths" with almost the same caveats?

The context for both are almost identical sans the treatment mentioned in one vs. the other.  One might argue that "near zero" is not identical to "eliminate all" -- meaning the number zero.  However, to have a death rate expressed in terms of "near zero" gives the impression of a less than 1% risk . It is insignificant.

You're arguing about a health professional's comments that the Covid death rate is near zero, saying that's not the same as eliminating all covid deaths.

Is this really the massive forum debate victory you imagine it to be?

You don’t have to walk me through anything.  The concepts that if you’re up to date on vaccines you have almost zero chance of dying from COVID, and the bivalent booster can eliminate all COVID deaths are significantly different.

And I’ll say once again… this whole digression is a distraction from the original idea of the thread, which is that the vaccines are a plot to cause a mass die-off of humans… a concept for which I still have seen no actual data to back it up.
