Most of you will be familiar with the story of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, but if you're not, you need to get up to speed. The Warsaw Ghetto is my canned response to idiots who claim that "a bunch of rednecks with guns couldn't stop the mighty mighty American military! They've got tanks and bombs and nuclear weapons!"
The brief outline is that in the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II, a couple hundred ragtag fighters armed with a few pistols, some Molotov cocktails, and whatever other improvised weapons they could come up with, revolted. For almost a month they were able to prevent the might of the Nazi army and SS from entering the ghetto to continue deporting Jews to concentration camps. In the end, the revolt was doomed to failure, but it is worth noting that the rebels were starting with a hell of a handicap-- they were already trapped inside a fenced-off area under total German control. They didn't have access to rifles until later in the rebellion, when various groups outside the ghetto started working to smuggle weapons and supplies to those inside; and even then, the armament mostly consisted of pistols and only a few rifles.
