I know some people on this forum don't like the police, but let me start by saying I do appreciate good policework. However, I've always believed that a persons well-being is always up to them first. In a life or death struggle, the victim themselves will always be the first responder.
Big dogs; social workers; police: Those are all great, when they have time to work. Even if a gun is not on me, I'd still be able to get to my safe from anywhere in the house, turn the combination, load it, and use it before the police get there which averages around 2-3 minutes, which would be the slowest home/self-defense timeline compared to the average police response time. I still think only people who are comfortable with guns should carry them, but I also think it's everyone's responsibility to learn how to use a gun.
