That was a very long winded post for, I'm going to test some optics side-by-side and you decide for yourself. 

For those who didn't get to or want to sit through a 30 min video (I got through parts of each main section), he covers parallax, "red dot test", battery life, shake awake, durability (mostly story telling), and lens caps.  Overall, I like that he did tests side-by-side.  Tough to do for any shooter, but especially for newer shooters trying to decide.  I personally tested EoTech and Aimpoint side-by-side for my first ARs.  Tested others along the way, but mostly focused on EoTech and Aimpoint since.  He had some good points, but some of his tests couldn't tell much.  Also, wasn't really "combat", so title misleading.  Personally, I think most of the "known quality" red dots, be it holographic, prism, etc, would serve me just fine for my intended uses.

Ditto. 100% of us won't ever be in "combat" with our rifle.  But this does give you something to think about.

Me, I got a SIG ROMEO5.  I like shake on and auto off feature.  This was my biggest decision factor.  And for my living style (condo), I don't need a magnified optic as I only got 500 sq feet.  And confident up to 300 yards.  But this distance would mean SHTF and all HI gun laws are void due to SHTF (like invasion/war).

Ditto. 100% of us won't ever be in "combat" with our rifle.  But this does give you something to think about.

I would say there's quite a bit to be learned or gleaned from equipment that have gone through the rigors of use by a wide range of users, particularly in combat where stuff gets beat to $hit. . . That said, it's a good test for stuff that gets "special handling" by TSA and the airlines. . .

1 thing that came out of being in war for the past 20 years is the abundance of training available.  But with that is the abundance of instructors who think because they're retired X, Y , or Z that makes them qualified to teach to the public.

Some people don't learn well to drill instructor type teaching (barking commands).  Others do respond well.  So a good instructor knows how to convey the message to various personalities.

There's a bunch of guys being called toxic for wanting discussions on what you mentioned above.  DM me if you're interested.  I've been following a few for a while, but it wasn't until recently that they starting doing live convos.  I've listened to a few and I think the questions are pointed, but fair.  What was the meme I say the other day?  I hope I get it right. 

Truth: does not mind being questioned.
A lie: does not like being challenged.

In the context above, more than a few "SMEs" were getting called out on stuff they put out.  Many just blocked, but there were a few who were willing to have open and frank conversations.  A few were VERY enlightening and both parties ended up learning things.  I think that's how it should be. 

But yea, just because someone can do, doesn't mean they can teach.  Plus there's a wide range of how people learn.  That's one benefit of taking instructor courses.  It goes beyond barking commands.  It includes being able to observe, diagnose, and help the student improve.  Sometimes even when the student is resistant to learning.  Great instructors will make you better, sometimes even in "your way".
