Another deterrent, according to Howard, get a guard dog. He said a dog that makes a lot of noise can be very effective.

A trained guard dog can easily run $100k.  My advice is get an alert dog, small yappy dogs are good at that. Spend a couple thousand on a handgun and training. Keep that gun on your person or very close by when sleeping or bathing.

My "Dog" makes a loud bark.  It pushes a 240 grain projectile at 1270 fps.

Consider that his "BITE".

Cops will just shoot it.
If and when they finally show up.

Yep.  Lots of property crimes in Mililani is due to "yard maintenance personnel".

Not knocking on yard maintenance professionals.  I think the majority are hard working, and honest.

Like anything, just gotta be careful.  One incident in particular involved a worker that was employed by the Mililani Town Association as their landscaper.

That's why I always opposed my wife's suggestion to hire yard maintenance.  But I don't blame her because I suck at it.  And I'm lazy.  And retired. :shaka:

This is why I don't let friends of friends come over.  Your friend may not want to rob you, but if you having a party and they invite someone, you have no clue who this person is.  Plus when workmen come, I make sure to cover everything (ammo cans) with something.  Same reason why I don't post on social media gun stuff or flaunt money type stuff.

So, will HPD pay for dog food, dog sh!t pickup, vet fees?

They should as getting a dog in lieu of being able to protect yourself is not free.

I do not want cop protection, I want freedom to do it myself without instant jeopardy.

I don't want cop protection either.  Just a number like 911 where I can call for dead criminal disposal service.

Cops don't protect anyone, they just clean up the mess,  if you bother to involve them.
You can always do it yourself, like they did in the old days.

Unfortunately,  not as easy to do on most of Oahu as it is where you and I live. With houses so close you can hear your neighbor's toilet flush, you will have at least 20 people know you shot someone.  On my property, except for the stench, you could leave the body where it lies till it rotted away and no one would know.  I think the wild pigs would dispose of it before then. But since we are all law abiding citizens,  I would call 911 and patiently wait the 45 to 75 min response time for the cops to show up. ;D
