Medication and surgical procedures that young?  Yikes!

Two of my best friends has kids in the 11-20 range.  All are active (or were through HS) in sports, a couple of them elite level.  That said, they spend a LOT of time on their "damn phones", as well as staying up until 4-5 am on the PS, XBox, etc, then sleep in all day.  They are not obese, but I could see how they could easily be if they weren't into sports.

The VA is more than happy to give you drugs.

Heres the writing on the wall. If they  can use this to justify "treatments", then later for gender choice and other stuff.  With the excuse, "we did this for fat".

For almost all cases of kids being fat, it's about calories.  I watched a docu on fat kids and they showed what 3 kids ate all day.  Basically sugary cereal for breakfast (captain crunch, Lucky Charms, etc...) and some breakfast meat. Lunch was school lunch and candy bars cause lunch wasn't enough. Dinner was fried chicken or like things with dessert after.  All kids played no sports or got no exercise.

Then u have people blame school lunches. This is only 1 meal the kid eats.  And doesn't affect as much compared to breakfast at home, dinner at home, and snacks the parents give them.

It's very simple math for 99% of fat kids. CALORIC COUNT.  For the rest, there are certain diseases and genetics, which means they just have to reduce calories more or burn more calories.   I know a girl who has a Thyroid (IIRC) problem. She's on 1300 Kcals a day and is still chubby.  Like border line fat.   Could she eat less, of course, but there is a certain amount of cals your body needs.  She also works out 5x a week and I've seen her workouts.  She trains hard in the gym with HIIT (like 5 seconds rest between sets) and running on the treadmill. Like when I see her, she looks like shit cause she's exhausted.

Drugs are the democrat way.  Ingesting them for everything is seems.

There was a funny statistic out a few years ago about the percentage of democrats taking medication/drugs. it was huge.

Of course the wags immediately said, "consider the fact that the remainder are not medicated"

Kids don't play outside anymore.

They just play on their iphones or computer games.

By the way, is there still PE in school?  Bet not.

We used to play outdoors until dark after doing homework.  (Modern day kid: "Homework?  What's dat?")

We also used to walk to school and back.  Bet few kids do that nowadays.

But in today's world few parents want their kids outside playing by themselves like we used to.  Don't blame them.

Innocence lost.  Evil has taken over society.  So kids stay home, protected but fat.

"Young people who have a body mass index that meets or exceeds the 95th percentile for kids of the same age and gender are considered obese. Kids who reach or exceed the 120th percentile are considered to have severe obesity. BMI is a measure of body size based on a calculation of height and weight."
Obesity affects nearly 20% of kids and teens in the U.S.

So technically, the more kids we get  fat, the less fat kids we will have ?  ???

Exactly.  Growing up, I was outside with the neighborhood kids from afterschool until sunset.  Riding bikes all over the place, sports practice, etc.  Family get togethers, all outside playing.  Now, have to practically force my buddies' kids to come outside and cruise with "da uncles", throw football, etc.  All stuck in their phones, tablets, etc.  Some parents allow, but still forced to be active.

1 fault of BMI is it ignores muscle. But as a child, 1 can assume they don't have bodybuilder type muscle.  But later in life this causes an issue. The 100/442 unit is made up of lots of Samoans.  And most are off the Army's standard BMI chart.  They had to grand an exception to most of the guys in this unit.  These guys are not fat, but husky, rugby type sole's.

Totally agree that kids would be better off in general if they spent more time out in real reality and less in virtual reality, but as they say… “you can’t outrun a bad diet.”

WAY easier to take in excess calories than it is to burn them off.  It’s the relationship with high calorie/low nutrient food that’s the heart of the problem.

I was expected to be out of the house from breakfast till supper.
As long as the cops weren't after me or they didn't have to take me to the hospital
it did not matter to my parents what I was doing.
I had chores and did them. School and homework.
Otherwise I had a whole world to explore.
How many parents today would allow a 11 year
old boy to ride his bike 16 or more miles to the beach to go body surfing?

One day, we had the bright idea to try to bike from Pearl City (near the high school) to Ala Moana beach park.  I think we got to around where the end of the freeway overpass is and turned around and went back home.   ;D

IDK if it's my area or generation, but most of us roller bladed (1990's).  Plus Mighty Ducks came out about that time as well.  Out of our play group of 15, maybe 1 or 2 would bring their bikes.

Then fast forward to 2008 or so, we decided to go roller blading so I went to McCully bike and Sports Authority to look for a set of skates.  The brands that were top of the line back in the 90's were no longer available. Roller Blade brand Lightning TRS or Lightning or the brand Macroblade (green with orange straps).  Ended up buying some random brand just for fun. Was like $99.
