Police have arrested a suspect accused beating a 77-year-old woman and throwing her down the stairs of her Mililani home during a violent home invasion.

It happened a little after 10 p.m. Monday on Awiki Street in a neighborhood next to the Mililani Golf Course.

Law enforcement sources say it’s not the only home the suspect is accused of breaking into.

“We’re also encouraging seniors to invest in those emergency bracelets,” Kim said.

“In the event that you’re home and something medical or an emergency like this
happens ... you’re able to activate that medical bracelet to notify police.”

Not the worst advice for a nearly 80-year-old woman.

I live close to the Mililani Golf Course.  Had a tree trimmer walk onto my property even though I had (a) Beware of dog signs and (b) a ring doorbell on the gate where he walked in.  When I confronted him (before he could knock on my door which would have alerted my 90 lb. German Shepherd), I asked why he didn't ring the doorbell.  He lied and said he did, but it must not be working.  I said "Bullshit!" and told him to leave my property.  He suddenly had this angry expression like he was about to do or say something.

I said, "You just lied to me.  Leave now."  He turned and left without saying anything else.

I reviewed the surveillance video of the front gate, and he never once tried using the doorbell.  I check the doorbell everyday, and it was fine.

Anyway, I was ready in case he tried anything.  Handgun was on top of the cabinet next to the front door, and my dog was sleeping in the living room.

A big dog AND a gun.   :geekdanc:

He's really lucky the dog was inside asleep and that I saw him first.  Never saw that guy again.

Time to review my home defense plan.

Just remember:  many people don't respect boundaries, and that includes people other than the criminals who might want to rob or hurt you.

I've also had solicitors walk inside my fence and around to the backyard -- ostensibly to look for someone after trying to get someone to come to the gate.  Why?  Trespassing on someone's property is not the proper way to ask someone to listen to your sales pitch, charity plea, or whatever else.

I have a feeling the man was looking for an easy target, and a house with no one answering the doorbell and a 6-foot fence to hide behind was attractive.

I happened to be taking a nap, but the camera app woke me as he left.  Checking the cameras, he didn't do anything other than trespass -- but I think he spotted the backyard Ring Floodlight Cam and decided to leave.

Whether or not he was there to do something bad, it seems to be a "thing" to walk onto people's property that's totally enclosed by a tall fence for any reason at all.  I guess some people's wants and needs are more important than my desire to keep people out.

For each type of home, there are pro's and cons.  A pro for a condo is 1 entry and more secure compared to a regular home that has more than 1 entrance and multiple windows.

I know a guy who's neighbors all watch out for each other.  When there's a car that isn't normally parked and someone waiting in it, it's common for someone to walk up to that car and ask who they're waiting for. This recently happened to my friend 2 months ago.  A car was parked with a driver inside in front his  home and he wasn't home.   The reply when asked who they waiting for was no one who lives in that area and the car then drove off and never returned.

Update from SSH Moderator with inside info:

"Update: Okay so I found out more info. Apparently, he was able to reduce the Murder 2 charge to assault in the first degree. He was retried apparently and was able to get a plea agreement and have his sentence reduced to 10 years. Smh.
---------------------
Update: It was brought to my attention that allegedly the suspect actually got life with the possibility of parole for killing a father of three back in 2011. Murder 2. Somehow he was able to appeal and was released early. The elderly woman is lucky she wasn't killed."

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/01/13/man-charged-with-attacking-elderly-woman-her-home-had-murder-conviction-overturned-records-show/

Court records show the 32-year-old suspect in a brutal home invasion this week was sentenced in 2011 to life behind bars for the fatal stabbing of his neighbor.

But Takson Krstoth became a free man a year ago after his murder conviction was overturned and he served time for a lesser charge. Krstoth is now accused of attacking a 77-year-old woman in her Mililani home on Monday night.

He remains behind bars on $100,000 bail.

Court records show the state Supreme Court overturned Krstoth’s murder conviction in a case that hinged on a language barrier. The high court ruled a judge didn’t do enough to make sure Krstoth understood the rights that he was giving up when he pleaded guilty to killing his neighbor.

Isn't that why we (taxpayers) afforded him an attorney (assuming he couldn't pay himself), and why the judge in every trial i've ever seen -- real and enacted -- asks the defendant if they understand that they are pleading guilty and what that means?

I find it ridiculous that anyone convicted of MURDER can have the charges dropped because they CLAIM to not understand the consequences of a guilty plea.  I bet he understood the consequences of killing a human being would not be in his best interest.

I wonder if politics came into play.  Like how the Skykapp guy had a bunch of micro's at the court house to show support against the officers.

He's got English words tatted on his FACE!

I don't believe he's experiencing a language barrier.

the Supreme Court should be held liable - but for now we must hold those elected officials who appointed them accountable.

Look what happens when you coddle the criminals.

Anyway, somehow our justice system got too convoluted and complicated in my opinion.  Whatever happened to "you do the crime, you do the time".

Too much Kumbaya politicians and justice officials.  F**k the law abiding tax-payer citizens.  Criminals are misunderstood and needs compassion and understanding.

Even if they are raping your a$$ or cutting your throat.

That makes no sense.

Would you let a tattoo shop stencil a group of Japanese characters on your face with no idea what they mean?

People do it all the time with asian characters. Story of 2 tattoo artist who got tired of white people getting chinese characters. So he tattooed soup instead of harmony.

My sister in law has the wrong character she googled it and its wrong.

Okay, so if you don't know what you're getting tattooed on your own body, maybe you should go with a picture?  They are worth 1000 words in any language!

Maybe your SIL could have researched the characters BEfORE the needle session?  Just thinking out loud.

Then again, maybe the tattoo artist is illiterate?  Don't have to be a brain surgeon to give tattoos.

Anyway, we are talking about the English language, not Chinese characters.  English is the most well-known language on the planet.  I still find it implausible that the defendant was clueless about what pleading guilty to MURDER might do to his freedoms.
