Lock up your shoe!

Saw this in the iHeart news email today.

A flight attendant offered a piece of advice to travelers who use hotel room safes to store their valuables:

Put one of your shoes in the safe along with your valuables.

Lots of people have checked out in a hurry only to realize too late they left their wallet, passport, cash or other valuables in the safe.

Placing a shoe in the safe will remind you of the things you need to remove before departure.

Of course, the shoe needs to be one you intend to wear upon departure, or else you might not notice only one of a pair got packed.  It also only works at night when you aren't wearing your shoes, obviously.

This works with things other than shoes, too, as long as it's something you would not leave the room without making sure you have it.  Wearing only one shoe is pretty difficult to miss!

I almost always travel with just the shoes i wear to the airport so i can travel lighter.  That makes this "hack" a viable one for me.  I don't normally use a hotel safe because of the horror stories of how easy they are to break into, but I might consider using one while I'm in the room as long as it's free.

Anyway, thought this was worth passing along.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Before I leave a hotel room to check out, I always check every single drawer and the safe to make sure I did not forget anything.

Flapp's suggestion has merit. :shaka:

I've found that when my wife and I go on trips it's when we change hotels halfway through the trip is where the chances of forgetting the valuables and money in the safe will happen.  The excitement of still being on vacation tends to make us careless.

Knowing we are going home makes us a bit more sober but it still can happen.  Especially when you oversleep and need to be at the airport asap.

I bring 2 pairs of shoes and slippers when I go on trips.  The slippers I never wear to the airport but maybe I should put 1 of each shoe in the safe.  If they would fit, lol!

Another would be my glasses.  I don't think I'd go very far without my glasses. :rofl:
