Republicans ban abortion before most people even know they are pregnant (Read 1837 times)

Yesterday, 2024 hopeful and Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis said that he would sign a six-week abortion ban if the state legislature sends it to his desk. DeSantis previously signed an extreme abortion ban that offered no exceptions for rape or incest — now he promises to sign an even more restrictive law, which would ban abortion before most people even know they are pregnant.

Not surprisingly, you omitted the term "heartbeat."

The 6 week point is not a hard and fast deadline, but an estimation for when a fetal heartbeat can be detected.

If a rape victim seeks treatment immediately following the attack, the normal procedure is to administer contraceptives to prevent pregnancy in the first place.  While it's not 100% effective in all cases, it's pretty damn close.

The window for using Plan B, or the Morning After Pill, is 3-5 days.

As for incest, that covers a wide range of situations and age groups.  If a couple discovers they are related after they planned to have a baby, there are legal means to get a court order that allows for exceptions.  in many cases, incest is between a minor and a stepfather.  Since they are not related by blood, the risk to the child is much less.

In most cases, if the woman reports the rape, whether or not it was with a relative, there are preventative measures to avoid the whole abortion question.

Someone should tell that weird millennial chick that she can abort herself anytime and nobody will care.

If you don't know that having sex can lead to pregnancy, Then you have bigger problems. If you have unprotected, risky, or even sex with someone you aren't willing to have a child with, it should be on you to make sure you don't have that child. (rape, incest, yada yada yada) If you are in a situation that you have had sex, forced, or you think there might be a chance you did ( passed out drunk) your precautions should be like the "day after pill" the day after, Not when the head is poking out. I would think with a little common sense, a little accountability, and a little education would get us to a place where we don't have to kill a baby because we don't want it. Either that or be honest and say " I want to kill this baby because I don't want it"

rape, and less than 0.5% do so because of incest, according to the Guttmacher

Listening to the rants of the Left-wing pro-abortion zealots, you'd think rape and incest accounted for a huge number of abortions.

That's why they always bring it up.  They hope you aren't armed with the facts.

Laws are meant to apply to the vast majority of cases, not the minuscule, rare and exceptional cases.

If abortion is no longer an option after 1-1/2 months, I bet the number of rape and incest predicated abortion would plummet given there are other options like I mentioned.

If a rape or incest victim has had unprotected intercourse, and they know an abortion after the heartbeat is not an option, they'd be less likely to remain silent and hope they are not pregnant.

Six weeks sounds like a short time, but 1-1/2 months is time enough to know if you are having regular periods.

There are over 140,000 rapes per year in the U.S. It's a serious enough problem that even pre-emptive measures for a victim should be allowed, and not the busy body concern of religious fanatics. There is no high ground if your wife or daughter is raped. Most 2A advocates would shoot the rapist, at least in their thoughts.

Very few rapes result in pregnancy, in part because the victim was on birth control and/or the victim was administered the Morning After pill to prevent pregnancy.  Also, some rapists use condoms to avoid disease and prevent leaving a DNA sample.

Simply using the total number of reported rapes in the US is disingenuous and shouldn't be used as a basis for your argument.

You should read the article i posted.  Fewer than 1% of all abortions are based on rape and/or incest.
