Today I finally got notification that my fancy pants German air rifle just shipped after 6 months on back order.

At least I’m ready for the next closure.  ::)

I thought the proper "maintenance" procedure would be to "rake" the berms periodically to remove the lead.

How come they just cover it up.

One thing seems certain.  For decades there was no "maintenance" schedule in place.  Either that or nomo money so they just said Ahhhh....F**k it.

But now everybody all hu hu.

The backstop was very low, probably should be twice as high.  Pouring dirt also renders the reclamation moot as the new dirt will trap bullets.

What did you get?  I would guess a HW of some flavor.

Hw50 in .22. It’s supposed to be the Goldilocks gun as far as power vs weight. I need a neighbor friendly mongoose slayer and people say it works pretty good inside 40 yards. There aren’t many on the used market which is generally a good sign.

Lusted after an Hw77, but no way the wife would let that go.

Ended up with a used RWS 48.   A real scope killer.

So far they only fixed the pistol brow and pushed back the rifle backstop, I'm guessing it's the core of the new much larger backstop.

Took this excerpt from an email I received from the Honolulu Trap Club concerning opening the trap and skeet side…..
Doesn’t look to good rite now as the clubs will have to shoulder all the costs of”renovation”. What is pure bullshit is a study will have done to see if any stray pellets are escaping over the hill…….

“The trap and skeet club recently had a meeting with the city regarding the requirements that must be met before reopening.

First on the list is a ballistic study to establish whether or not shot pellets can go above and/or beyond the crater walls given the angles/elevation targets are shot at. This study was recommended by Kramer 1, whom the city hired to audit KKHSC operations.

As of now, we are working with the city and Kramer 1 to recommend a vendor that can do this “study” to their “liking”. Unfortunately the club (s) will have to incur this and just about all other costs in our endeavors to reopen so we’re in for a rough road ahead.  Updates will be given as we get them.

Keep in mind that all updates from the media regarding KKHSC are about the pistol and rifle ranges only.”

Kramer!

such BS. No historical data or any record of pellets going over that side.

Exactly…
Shot sizes allowed are 8, 8 1/2, 9! Max shot weight 1 1/8oz, 2 3/4 or 3 dram target loads, lead only. When a clay is launched it will travel to the rear most portion of the berm which backs up against the cliff face. I estimate the cliff is about 100’ + in height but I may be wrong. The clay launches with about 16 to 18’ at its apex. No way lead pellets will fly over the hill or ricochet over.
Now let’s look at what was mentioned in an earlier post. They were discussing banning lead altogether and going with some other shot material. Bismuth, copper, steel were mentioned. Here’s the problem with that.
1. Steel smallest size that I could find was 7. Steel WILL ricochet
2. Copper will act the same as steel and the smallest I could find was 7
3. Smallest shot size I could find with bismuth was 6. Not sure about the ricochet though
4. There was another material that is available called tin but I could not find much on that.
The ricochet with any of these materials is much greater than lead.
All alternative materials are loaded with 1 oz of #7, same dram amounts which will account with increased velocity and in my opinion more chance of ricochet

Their logic is flawed and laced with total bullshit……. :grrr:

Between the BS of CCW and the BS of issues at KHSC, no rubber boots nor waders will suffice to protect you from the putrid waste and smell.

After the recent elections there will be no breath of fresh air for another 8 years.  And odds are, even beyond that.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

Looks like the size shot allowed for skeet/trap (7 1/2 - 8 ) limits the range to 175 - 225 yds if aiming at a 30 degree elevation.

Shouldn't really take much time or money to complete a "study".  The results of other studies are available.

Consider it a donation to the range.

Just send a receipt so i can deduct it next year....

I wouldn't make it a donation to the range it will just go into the general fund never to be seen it being used for the range.  JMHO

Trap should not be a problem as you can visually see all the lead shot near the base of the crater wall which is no where near the crater rim.  Really no study should be needed there.  Skeet is different though and a study might be needed.

As far as going to any other type of shot other than lead for trap could be dangerous to the shooters due to possible ricochets.  Have you ever taken a close look at the trap house on the shooters side?  I would say if we go to lets say steel shot someone could get hurt especially if someone forgot to put on their eye protection.

The main reason to move away from lead shot is the future requirements of lead remediation.  Probably more difficult and costly to do remediation for trap/skeet.  Had it ever been done on the hillside…can it be done?

It'll be hard for them to spend the results of a study.

IRT the shot I agree and pointed this out earlier. Skeet side has a higher cliff wall than trap but still steel, bismuth, antimony, copper would pose an ever higher risk of ricochet than the trap side but only marginally. Bottom in the past 20+ years I’ve been shooting trap not once was there any complaints of pellets leaving the confines of the range.
