One last thing. When you bring your firearms in for registration, they must be cased. Felony here for openly carrying a firearm, even if it is to the HPD for registration.

:o NO!  Law (HRS 134-24) says:

Quote from: HRS 134-24
...it shall be lawful to carry unloaded firearms in an enclosed container...

"Enclosed container" means
a rigidly constructed receptacle, or
a commercially manufactured gun case,
or the equivalent thereof that completely encloses the firearm.

Suggest a "rigidly constructed receptacle" or a commercially made gun case (i.e. soft case / zippable pistol rugs / fluffy triangular shaped case).  I'd hate to be the one standing before a judge arguing that a pillowcase is an "equivalent thereof that completely encloses the firearm"

Well i guess in my joking around it shows my ignorance of the law. As cited by flyboy, use a rigid container.  I guess cardboard boxes qualify though.

Yeah, I wondered about that too...I guess cardboard boxes must be "rigid" enough, as most guns are shipped and factory packaged in cardboard boxes.

Yup. I was told by a ffl that cardboard boxes that are made in a factory are equivalent  to "commercially made gun case" since some firearms are shipped in cardboard boxes.

I love carrying my firearms in a commercially made case down the sidewalks. Especially when I park three or four blocks away and take all the looks from the motorists driving by.
God, guns, and guts made America. Let's keep all three!

(O'ahu)  I got in trouble one time for rack rack racking clear at the window.  There is a box to dry fire into but if you go with the action open, locked back/chamber flag then no need, just show and then place into the bin for inspection.

Believe it or not one time somebody racked to show clear and ejected a live round. (firearm was brought in a paper shopping bag to boot)  Everybody in the room was like wtf.  The guy didn't get into any trouble though.  I still scratching my head on that one?  lol

Assault Rifle? What I have here is an Anti-Assault Rifle.

i didnt even lock the action or do a clearing.  i checked it at the store, and just gave it straight to the guy from the box.

i dont think anyone cares either way what you do.  some guys we're locking the bolt back, some even just shoved their whole pistol case under the window.  no one said anything, at least the last times i was there.
