My favorite part of the range is the boom. Forces me to concentrate better.

Thanks for the input all.  I’ll bring extra ear pro so neighbors can double up if they’re sensitive.   :shaka:

For NRA Highpower Rifle Competition.

3.16.1 Compensators and Muzzle Brakes—The use of compensators
or muzzle brakes is prohibited. Tuners are allowed with the exception of
Service Rifles. An extension tube that has been installed on the muzzle of
a rifle to extend the sight radius shall not be considered a “muzzle brake.”
The extension tube must have an interior diameter of .5 inches or greater and
may have 1/4 inch x 1 inch slots cut at 12 and 6 o’clock to remove cleaning
patches. Threaded holes along the top of this tube for the installation of sight
bases will be allowed.

Muzzle brakes are not allowed for CMP competitions either.

I appreciate when people like the original poster think about others and try to accommodate others, however i don't believe it is their duty. If you go to a gun range and are offended by the sound a gun makes, then you are the one with issues, not the other person.
I frequent the silhouette side, and am always shaken awake when Dennis fires his hand cannon, but he has every right to. Plus i think it's kinda cool, but that's just me.

Yup.  Be courteous, but you are also there for a reason, which is to enjoy the shooting sports/activities.  If there is a new shooter who comes into a bench next to me, I'll usually notice and hold off when they are having someone to help them.  I mostly shoot bolt action rifles from the benches these days and rate of fire isn't very high and I usually make sure I'm not crunched for time when I go.

There's an older guy who I used to see often Friday mornings.  Does a "fire in the hole" just prior to shooting.  It seems like a large rifle, but not that loud.  At first, I was like "what the hell is going on".  Later, I would smile and appreciate his enthusiasm for shooting.   ;D

Good on you for being considerate.  I typically have a box of disposable roam ear plugs in my range bag just in case.  I prefer just over ear muffs, but I know many folks do no like shooting with over ear muffs.

What brand/type of comp/sbrakes are you going to be shooting?

I wish we could get it through to the Knudsen crowd how wonderful their lives would be if we made suppressors legal.

Maybe.  I've never shot near him or asked about the rifle.  IIRC, it's a large diameter barrel, maybe 2" in diameter.  Most times I've seen him (over 6+ months ago tho) he is there with an older lady.
