Ewa Neighborhood Board on closing Puuloa Range
« on: March 29, 2023, 11:01:04 PM »
Disappointed with our 2a community and the neighborhood.
Hunters that support the 2a but...
Veterans that support the military but...
the hecklers while we sat quiet listening to your testimonies
and the RINO in the room.
For those hunters that testified for the closure and argued that there is always Kokohead to shoot/zero your hunting gun I hope you realize what you gave the anti-range, anti-2A community....

Wow that sounds bad.
Never let anyone take away your freedom for "the greater good". Freedom is the greater good.

sensationalism all around. The range has limited hours of shooting and only uses the PA for warning people out of the SDZ. A female who claimed to be a veteran complained about reveille being played....problem is that the Navy plays it across the ways at Pearl Harbor. Others claim they have PTSD from the range...OK
But illegal fireworks that have no schedule is OK

if they're suffering from PTSD due to distant gun fire, maybe it's time to invest in some quality noise-cancelling headphones.  i mean, at some point, their problems stop being everyone else's to solve.

Kurt Fevella claimed that he could hear the PA system from LocoMoco's double paned windows....that's miles away. He also stated that despite the lead by the fishing he would rather cast lead on the shoreline than get shot.

It's quite a stretch to go from nuisance noise to PTSD.  Normally, noises don't cause PTSD.  The noises can trigger it, but the disorder has to exist before the noise triggers it.

I'd ask for medical evidence that he's been diagnosed with PTSD and that range noise is a likely trigger.

There are also concerns about how fast the Ewa Beach community has grown around the facility and that it's too close to homes.

"I live a mile from the firing range, and the noise has increased substantially. It has impacted my health, and I can't imagine what it's doing to the mental health of our children," testified area resident Karen Luke.

The resolution was approved, but it isn't binding.

If not mistaken, the courts have normally sided with the facilities (gun ranges, airports, pig farms, etc.) when home owners that moved in after the facility existed.

The home buyers knew there was a potential noise, stink or projectile problem before they made the decision to live there.  Otherwise, an anti-gun group could have members move into close proximity to a gun range/club, then ask them to file lawsuits to shut the range down.

On the other hand, they haven’t did much to allow easy access for civilian shooters at all.
If they would open the place up regularly for the general public to utilize, the general public would probably have a better understanding of how safe and clean the training facilities is.

I know the public still thinks shots are all falling into the ocean. Which is why the numbskulls are complaining.

Sounds like a case for shooting suppressed.

Not all units are issued suppressors, nor would they be issued them.  But I get the concept of your statement.

Happy Memorial Day - now get the f*ck out!

The most vocal opponents of the Puuloa Range are the ones who moved into the former Navy housing which is right outside the range. Several were at the board meeting and one claimed to be a veteran....

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/05/30/residents-ask-congressional-delegation-step-up-amid-dispute-over-shooting-range-noise/

The Marine Corps says the Puuloa Range Training Facility plays a crucial role in the military’s readiness in the region.

It’s also where 7,000 Marines on Oahu go to complete their yearly rifle qualifications.

Military officials say they are listening to residents’ concerns.

They’ve pledged to add more sound barriers and change their speaker systems. They’re also planning to move six ranges at the facility inland to avoid lead from bullets being taken to surrounding beaches due to coastal erosion.

“These are Band-Aid solutions,” said Chinn, who argues the only solution is for the military to leave. AND THERE IT IS

Ewa Beach got more to worry about than a legit range...
https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2024/05/28/stop-violence-ewa-beach-family-pleads-perpetrators-come-forward-after-assault/

A 63-year-old Ewa Beach man is hospitalized with severe injuries after his family says he was beaten during a confrontation over illegal and loud fireworks.

The Lynn family says the violence in this Ewa Beach neighborhood stemmed from a graduation party across the street Sunday night as people were setting off illegal and loud fireworks.

The dignity and honor of the people are gone. Its one thing to celebrate but there is no consideration for your neighbors anymore.

This is disgraceful.  This is my old neighborhood. Back in the day we respected our elders. Our parents made sure of that.  Now this little punk azz kids never have consequences. Their parents probably condone this crap.  Just hope street xxxxxxxxxxxxx, because this city will definitely NOT do a proper job.

Senator Favela lives near here too. Wonder if he’ll have any say……

https://www.khon2.com/local-news/ewa-beach-man-allegedly-assaulted-after-asking-neighbors-to-stop-illegal-fireworks-at-party/

The Lynn’s said it was their neighbor who said the attack was Coby’s fault because he kicked over one of their fireworks.

“I felt like it was racial and a hate thing,” said Eileen Lynn, who said the people at one of the neighbor’s houses were calling them racial names and kept calling Coby an ‘old man.’

Coby suffered extensive injuries and remains hospitalized.

His family said his surgeries require multiple specialists to fix the hole in his cheek and his throat.

“My husband didn’t deserve this, he’s helped our community so much,” said Eileen.

“They continued with their party and they were laughing and I could hear them saying ‘old man’ like they thought it was so funny to beat a man in the street, it’s pretty sick,” she added.

Coby has lived in Ewa Beach for 35 years. His family says he has been part of the Lions Club, does community clean-ups, and tries to keep his community safe.

Eileen said Coby didn’t want to press charges while he was being taken in the ambulance, but she has an attorney now.

“This would have never happened if they weren’t shooting off fireworks illegally in the middle of the road,” she said.

“Hearing what had happened is really disturbing to me,” said Sen. Kurt Fevella (R) Ewa Beach, Iroquois Point, Ewa Villages. “Why wasn’t the party shut down when there were people busting or popping off illegal fireworks?”

“I think it’s just disrespectful for somebody that’s been in the community so long, work hard to keep the community safe to be a victim because somebody wanted to have a party,” he added.

Fevella is visiting family on the neighboring islands and said he would have gone to the house to talk to the homeowners.

Fevella is a long-time friend of Coby.

Right now there are aerials going off in Waipahu. I have to work tomorrow as I imagine lots of others do. This is getting old. People complaining about inflation but they somehow can afford these fireworks. Adults setting them off. C'mon man! When will you grow out of it? Think about your neighbors and pets.
