Troubling trends have been spotted on our streets: new illegal drugs and risky drug combinations.

There is also disturbing news about Hawaii's on-going meth problem.

A year ago, Jefry Job tried crystal methamphetamine, and his life has never been the same since.

Drug use is up in my neighborhood.
When I walk the dog, I'm finding the little plastic crack bags and lots of swisher sweet bags.
It's pretty obvious.

I think our taxes will be used to fund the 65% pay increase for city council members first.

Then, if there is any leftover.......

So the guy who created Bill 57 Counselman Tyler Dos Santos Tam also created a bill to require bars and night clubs to have Narcan.  This guy obviously loves to enable law breakers to keep breaking the law.

When asked how much will Narcan cost these establishment owners, he said he doesn't know as OTC pricing hasn't been released yet.  He stated maybe state funding will help them.

He's also the new guy and got the head chair for executive committee. Can tell he is being groomed to be a life long politician.  Maybe he will follow Rhodes and make meth not a felony anymore. I mean they're both in the same district.

I used to work for JIATF-West at Camp Smith.  The primary mission was to interrupt the illegal drug flow into the US, in part by preventing the precursors (component chemicals) from reaching here.  We worked in cooperation with foreign law enforcement and military organizations.

In our training, we watched videos of clinical studies that demonstrated the changes in the brain when someone uses meth.  The high is so intense, no other drug can come close to producing the same degree of euphoria and pleasure.  The drug targets the pleasure centers of the brain, unlike many other drugs that go to the sensory centers to numb you.  That's the main difference between amphetamines vs. depressants.

It only takes one try to get totally hooked on meth if the user is prone to addictive behavior.  The chemical process it creates in the brain can cause both physical and psychological addiction -- again, after just one use.

Quote
Crystal meth boosts the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine and stops its
reuptake. As a result, it increases the levels of dopamine in the body.

Dopamine plays an important role in motor function, motivation, reward, and how
the brain experiences and interprets pleasure.

The dopamine rush in the reward centers of the brain gives a person a sense of
euphoria soon after taking the drug.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), brain imaging studies on
people who have inappropriately used methamphetamine for a long time suggest
that dopamine system activity changes in such a way that it can seriously compromise
a person’s verbal learning and motor skills.

Crystal meth can also severely affect the brain’s structure and function. It affects
areas of the brain linked to emotion and memory, as well as structures associated
with judgment. Due to this, it may radically change behaviors and emotions.

This may explain why people who chronically use crystal meth often develop emotional
and cognitive difficulties.

Some of the changes to the brain that result from inappropriate crystal meth use remain
long after a person has stopped taking the drug. Other changes to the brain may reverse
after long periods of abstinence, but this could take a year or more.

Repeated use can have some psychological effects....

Given how intense the high and how it changes the brain physically, I don't see meth addiction going away -- ever.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Easter Europe has a mimic named Krakodil.  This one is that it kills the user usually with in a year.  So not as profitable for dealers.

==============
A couple years ago I used to find Swisher sweet bags and the little 1 inch ziploc bags by my house.
Apparently the druggies buy swisher sweet cigars and cut them open in order to refill the wrapper and smoke it.
That seems like a waste of a cigar, but that's what they do.

Personally, I kind of like Backwoods Russian Cream little cigars, just as is.
But apparently other people discovered that they are pretty good so the prices have gone up and supply has gone down.
Of course I'm always liking a fine dominican, nicaraguan, or cuban handmade cigar.
Us old guys used to enjoy smoking cigars and yakking on a Sunday afternoon after the range would close.
This was pre-covid.
Damn I miss the pre-covid days.

You know where I live.
You know there is the elementary school here.
.....
Update 2024
The crackheads are back at the park now.
During the last couple of weeks I see more strangers and found those little ziploc bags, and now used Q-tips. I had to Google the Q-tips and this popped up immediately....
...
Have you observed an unusual and repetitive use of certain items in your home, ones not being utilized for their intended purposes? Items such as small spoons, pipes, and syringes are commonly recognized as drug paraphernalia. But what about seemingly innocuous objects like straws, balloons, or Q-tips? You might wonder, what do drug addicts use Q tips for? Their presence could signal a problem with drug addiction.
.....
Also, there is an abandoned truck by the park now.
I also found a used rubber which grossed me out.
Here is a pic of the truck and Q-tips at the rec center.

HPD appears to treat rental car and hotel room burglaries, home robberies, and other property crimes as very low in their list of priorities,  When someone is arrested and charged, often for the 50th, 60th, 80th or more time, they remain on the streets as long as the crimes are exclusively property and drug related.

Hard to convince someone to say "NO" when the justice system says, "AINOKEA."

A lot of thefts are tied to needing drug money, so the two crime categories are linked.

Update, next day...
The next day, 3 cops were checking out the abandoned truck. However they left it there because now it looks like somebody is living in it. Today I found another tiny ziploc bag across the street from that truck.
