Lawsuit was settled before trial this morning. I was hoping to see a novel defense on the use of editorial opinion as a 1st amendment defense. Fox News is at least 50% entertainment.

Why do you jump from an announcement of an investigation to instantly concluding they lied and are covering it up? You obviously aren't looking at this objectively with a statement like that.

I wouldn't paint it so negatively but I guess the analogy fits, yes.

Well turns out they were guilty.  Keep on ignoring the evidence in plain sight.

Wrong. They settled to avoid paying more in legal costs and to put the issue to bed -- keeps it from hanging over them indefinitely.

The allegations were not proven in court.

The settlement does not include any admission from Fox News of any wrongdoing.

Also, the amount Fox is actually out of pocket will be much, much less than the settlement amount.

Realistically, the settlement won't affect their bottomline at all.  Shareholders are still making money, future stock buy-backs are proceeding as planned, and so on.

How much the lawsuit will actually end up costing Fox is unclear because there are ways
it can defray some of the expense, primarily through insurance and the use of tax deductions.

Fox can deduct the Dominion settlement from its income taxes as an expense necessary for
the cost of doing business. Fox Chief Communications Officer Brian Nick has confirmed the
deductibility of the settlement.

The only reason companies buy back stock is because there are no future opportunities available that would generate a return higher than the cost of capital. It's a return to investors. They were forced to admit they lied. They were not required to broadcast that fact on their network.

This is a shell game. They move money around with the courts and then launder it back in through the stock market and other means. It's all theater designed to squash dissent, because when Ukraine falls the dollar will crash and then it's over for the DC establishment.
