Recommend a Good Gunsmith?
« on: November 26, 2012, 12:18:48 AM »
Aloha folks, Can someone recommend a good gunsmith that doesn't charge an arm, and a leg?  I'm looking for someone experienced with shotguns, I need a barrel shorted and a poly-choke installed just a cut and sweat job basically.  Mahalo!

Mel Chung, John Perreira, Wayne Takeshita.
Keep in mind gunsmiths can have their specialties.
For example, John Holliger of White Oak and Frank White of Compass Lake specialize in ARs and are accomplished shooters.

Mahalo guys for the suggestions.   I've heard of John Perreira, Wayne Takeshita so I may check them out.  I did specify in OP I prefer someone having experience with shotguns so which of these two would you recommend?
I would not use Mel Chung again if he was the last gunsmith on earth.  He does good work, and I used to use him as well as direct others to him, I even visited his shop on my trips to Moloka'i to talk story but he was a total rude anal orifice the last time I talked to him a couple years back.  Thank you but no thank you Mel.  Any of these guys on the windward side?  Mahalo again.

Pereira is in kahaluu from what I understand he's one of best with historical guns and older military arms.
I use Wayne right now and like him.  Wayne is best know for his custom rifles particularly bolt guns.
But I'm not to sure who be better with shottys call them and ask

Mahalo BK I'll give John a call.  My in-laws live out in Kahalu'u so not out of the way if I time it right.

Wayne's shop is on Sand Island side, first right turn getting on Puuhale Rd. by Mcdonalds on Republican st., immediately on the corner.  He is inside an other shop there. Hard to see, so call him first.  He has done great work for me, and I heard him talk about doing shotguns before.

I think we need a sticky listing local gunsmiths.
