HPD issuing any CCW permits?
« on: April 24, 2023, 01:45:41 AM »
Last I saw on the forums there were less than 100 issued. Seemed like they were dragging the process out till the sensitive places bill was passed. Anyone who submitted their app in Jan get their response back yet?

I had 2 guys get a reply who submitted in Feb. 1 stated HPD is missing his pistol affidavid. Cough cough BS.

The other got a call stating they were missing his medical insurance policy number. WHich means it's at least 10 days from when they send out the medical form to his insurance provider. They could send out the form a week later, which would make it 17 (10 days  + 7 days) days until they finalize the process.

I was one of the Original 100 that submitted back when before the "RULES OF THE CHIEF" which changed requirement and forms.

Since then i took my class, submitted NEW paperwork in Feburary.  Back in March, i get a call saying that they made a "correction" to my form and wanted to let me know if it was ok (Yes it was).  From That point, i was informed it was headed to the "Chief's Office".  So fast forward to today, nothing as of yet.  I also believe that once the New City Law goes into effect, we will see the CCW Permits.

Aloha!

I thought the insurance section said “optional” on the form, unless they updated it since I submitted mine.

Did the call have HPD as the caller ID? I get a bunch of spam calls so I don’t pick up all the time if it’s during off hours or I don’t recognize it. I’m assuming they don’t leave voicemails.

I submitted January 5th and still haven’t received mine.

Most of the other guys who took the same ccw class as me submitted at the end of December and their permits were all completed in under 50 days.

Mine should have been even easier to complete, because my Primary Care Physician actually retired in December. So they didn’t even have a PCP to contact.

I am going to call this week and see what is going on. Last time I called, I talked to female officer who was rude and basically told me don’t call us, we will call you if we need anything.

Sometimes it has a blocked number. Sometimes it has 768-0000.  The times I didn't pick up when it had a blocked number, a message was always left.

Got it, thanks for the information. I suppose it’s best to just sit back and wait for them to call otherwise my paperwork might magically end up at the bottom of the pile. Zero transparency and no oversight, always a good mix.

There is also no logical way they're processing them.  Like u stated, some already got theirs. I know a few other guys who submitted same time and few took 50 days, others took 70 days, and other still waiting (90 days).

If there was a red flag, then their existing guns should have been confiscated.  So that's not the issue. It's just stuff piling up and what ever is at  the top is being grabed. No LIFO procedure.

FYI, should SB1230 pass and your Honolulu license isn't approved before the new law starts, there's a chance it will be denied or require additional training or requirements.  SB1230 closely follows Rule 15 but there are some differences.

SB1230 is vastly different from neighbor island requirements so you may have to redo everything.  But fortunately CCW processing is much faster there.  I heard Kauai CCWs are approved in a few weeks.

When I got my call to correct a date on the application, it showed up as (808) 768-0000 C&C OF HONOLULU.

Are the number of permits issued public information or did they only volunteer it in the beginning to make it look like they were going through with the new requirements? It seems like none were issued past January.

Pretty funny how you can submit a PTA today and get it back sooner than a response for a CCW submitted 3 months ago.
