The range is just the vehicle to get another military installation shut down. The sentiment at the neighborhood board meeting was just to shut it down. There was no reasoning with that crowd.
There were claims of hearing the PA system through double-paned windows while eating at the L&L down the street by State Rep.Kurt Favella. A Navy veteran living at Iroquois Point housing was tired of hearing "reveille" and another female claimed to have developed PTSD from the noise. The PA system is only used to warn people in the SDZ. This past weekend it seemed that they were trolling us with a number of incursions by jet skis and other watercraft.
"Shut it down. Shut it down" was echoed while it was our turn to give our points. They didn't want to listen to anything else. The facility was there before much of the community. I had a prepared short speech in favor of Puuloa. It was draining with all that negative sentiment that night.
Like I said in the other thread - if they succeed with Puuloa it's a blueprint for other military ranges and probably Kokohead. They did manage to keep Kokohead shuttered for several months over lead concerns. Something to think about.
From what I observed at the Ewa Neighborhood Board - we deserve what we elected.

Resident Mike Plowman says that Kaneohe mcas moved their annual training to Puuloa a few years ago.
Is that true?

Annual Training is an incorrect term.. Marines conducted Annual Rifle Training (ART 50 rounds) up until 2019. They now conduct Annual Rifle Qualification (ARQ 250 rounds). ART was more static precision marksmanship. ARQ is like Crossfit WODs with live ammo. Kaneohe ranges cannot support ARQ. Pu'uloa has the only range in 2500 miles that Marines can conduct ARQ.

I think residents got used to the quiet with most of our units deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and so on.

Now that the units have been recalled home, of course there's going to be more noise from more people participating in more exercises and training.

I wonder how many of those same complainants set off massive fireworks a few times a year?  How many sit without complaints while others make the island sound like a war zone with illegal aerial fireworks?

Military training has a critical purpose.  Holiday fireworks?  None whatsoever.

Complaints nowadays are based not on objectivity but on personal wants and needs.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

It’s crazy development encroaching.
These ranges have been there way before the complaining communities.
And these knuckleheads knew, or should have known, that they were buying a house near a range !
What ? Shut down the freeway. They built my house right next to it and I have PTSD from the sound. Sirens, motorcycles, speeders….

Fuck the lawmakers and anyone else that’s part of this bullshit….
