Just as I am preparing to travel for a firearms class. . .
I have so many  stories from traveling with firearms over the years. Nothing surprised me anymore. That said, how brazen and dumb must TSA folks be to try to pull off crap. . .
What would frustrate me is that the passenger obviously has a good amount of experience based on traveling with firearms, so he knows the process. Yet, the employee who doesn't look like they have ever checked in a firearm refuses to listen to him.
In terms of prevention, if i saw someone about to mess up, I would ask them to call their supervisor over. If that fails, I'd request a visit from a TSA supervisor. I'd never hand my gun over to a stranger at the range who acts like it's their first time holding a gun, so why would I trust my firearms to a stranger with a name tag who isn't listening to what i'm telling them?
Sure, they might have checked in a couple of guns and put them on the wrong conveyor before mine, but were they ever corrected after the locks were cut and the airport staff at the destination had to call the cops? Just because the agent did it one way and never heard of any problems doesn't mean they aren't doing it wrong.
Mistakes only impact the traveler and their property, not the poorly-trained agent who didn't know what they were doing.
