I get that it's easily to cut, but i meant not just a single spool of wire. But like 10 feet deep worth. Normandy style set up. The real journalist who visited the off site border area, had nothing to separate the US and Mexico. Then there's the Rio Grande River that was ankle deep. The reporter was standing in it while doing his story on how easy it is to cross at that section of the river. I'm sure it gets deeper at various times in the year, so barbed wire might not work there.
With what we've seen with drone tech in Ukraine, why not use them and have OC grenades dropped. You can pay a 19 year old sitting at his computer in Montana to operate it.
The point of this is that the border is willingly being neglected. But nothing beats GW giving an interview on all the fancy new tech at the border. And in the background you see 2 bags being thrown over the wall. Followed by 3 people jumping over. Then them being chased by border patrol.
What's the battery life for an electric drone? Who's going to recover it and swap in freshly charged batteries? Who covers that region when the drones land for recharge/refuel? Requires multiple drones for 24/7 ops.
Who goes into the boonies to recover a crashed drone? If you're talking about the kinds of drones we use in the Middle East, that's a much bigger issue. Need a ground crew to prep, launch and recover them in normal ops.
The dude or gal sitting at home in Montana might be able to remote fly it IF they have satellite access. I don't think that's a feature of Mavic Dromes out of the box!
I think we'd need manned observation posts spaced about 40 miles apart -- each post covering about 20 miles on each side. Each has a few drones and a bunch of sensors being monitored. When a sensor alerts them, they send out a drone to check on it. Drones can also be deployed at night when the most number of crossings is likely. Cameras can be monitored 24/7, and with solar-recharged-battery power, they don't need electricity from a generator.
The border is a pretty big distance to cover: 1.954 miles.
Divided by 40 (the number of miles a single post can realistically cover and have enough time to react to alerts by driving to the spot) =~ 486 posts.
