being one helped her become financially successful and happy.

So I guess you can pick any mental illness from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and/or the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) or any other "mental condition" not contained therein to explain away your deviant behaviors?

Body dysmorphia was just a gateway illness to make this socially acceptable.

I know a gal that converted from a wife and Mom to a hot sexy exotic dancer.
She sounds a little crazy but I don't mind.

I'm glad I got to check out New York City before it turned into Dante's Inferno. RIP

There was a series starring Jennifer Love Hewitt called The Client List.  She and her TV husband were unemployed.  I think he was a carpenter, and the housing market was sucking.  When he eventually found work, it was in another town, so he spent most of his workdays away from home.

To keep from losing the house, she takes a job at the local massage parlor.  Then she learns it's actually a brothel, but the girls don't have to go that far if they don't want to.  The customers who come there for "special treatment" were part of a "Client List," so the girls knew what those customers expected.

Of course the money was much, much better servicing the List, and she soon volunteered.  Over time, she became one of, if not the, most requested ladies there.  She also became like an assistant manager helping run the place.

The whole time, she tried to keep her work separate from her regular life.  You can guess how that worked out!

Lots of parallels with the OP.  The money, power and relative freedom of her job was almost too much to give up -- even for family.

I watched in part because I enjoyed her in The Ghost Whisperer.  There are other parts I enjoyed as well.   :geekdanc:
