That does sound weird to me, at least from what I was used to in Japan where there was always bathrooms at rail stations.

I do understand that cost would be a factor. When I think about the counter argument I would have to concede that busses and most bus stops do not have bathrooms either so it is not like there is some huge change between current transportation options and rail.

My guess is they wanted to avoid the same problems they see at public parks and other restrooms.  Lack of maintenance, no TP, and the homeless occupying them.

One more reason for people to decide against riding this billion dollar public works project.

Oh well.  Forget about even thinking of "Run to the Border...."

No place to run.  Just let it go where you stand.

While other rail stations in the world thought about restrooms, TheRail in Hawaii is just like TheBus.

I get the idea. The train is aupposed to run every 10 minutes, so no time to go potty.
I live across the street from a public park with restrooms and it needs constant cleaning. Often times there is someone camping in the stalls. I think we have all seen this before. It's a harsh reality of the times.

Or the deciders are down with the San Francisco plan.  Everyone just pee and poop on the sidewalks.  What money is saved by having no restrooms can pay pooper scooper employees.

I do frequent both train stop areas in Waipahu. Don Q and Depot Road.
They are located near numerous shops and businesses.
I think the idea was to have people get off and use the surrounding businesses if they have to "go".
That sounds like a win-win-win to me.
1- it decreases the construction cost to the city
2- it increases the foot traffic to the community businesses
3- it decreases the maintenance cost to the city.

Sounds good in theory. LOL Now I wanna go for a joy-ride.

Just an observation since there is zero chance I will ever use public ground transportation in Hawaii.
Your elected public officials are idiots and a reflection on Hawaii voters.
This isn't China, Japan,  Europe or East coast of the United States so their transportation ideas don't
necessarily work here.
Yet y'all insisted on doing that here. You were doomed to fail from the start because this whole thing was a
political decision, not an engineering one.
My father always preached "Do something even if is wrong" he was speaking from the point of view of a seaman

My training as a Boeing engineer, is safety is Job #1. Just doing something un-informed when there is
something wrong will kill lots of people.  Take a little more time to get some data.
That is why most airplanes crash these days.  Human error.
Your rail system is classic human error.

You have a traffic problem y'all did something even if it was wrong, y'all will now pay for it dearly.
Even me who will never use your system. Y'all managed to allow my county to increase GET and Gas taxes.
Y'all should have listened to the PhD guy with the Greek name that is an engineer.
But he wasn't  a white progressive liberal, Chinese, Japanese, or a Hawaiian.

So his inputs did not count.

Da Filipino guy wanted to greatly expand the bus routes which he said would be up and running in 6 to 12 months for $350 million.   Construction unions were against him because he vowed to kill the rail project.  As a result, he lost the mayoral election and da pro-rail haole guy got in.

In the mayoral election Panos Prevedourus came in third. Too many low information voters ruins everything.
His most memorable qoute: "It cost the US government $10 billion to go from the earth to the moon.
It will cost the city of Honolulu $10 billion to go from Kapolei to Ala Moana."

We all knew Panos was right.
But what can you do against that kind of political pressure?
So now we just have to make do with what we got.
Like it or not.

How about you don't allow the BRATS to spill and waste the milk?

Was looking at comments on Facebook and apparently this is common in many other locations.

To me I don't think this is that big a deal.

Mass Transit systems like Fixed Rail should have bathrooms.

I have XP with riding a train in Taiwan.  All the stations have a restroom, well the many ones that I visited as I did not go to 100% of the stations for the MRT.  They also have water fountains.  Many have food/drink vendors even though no one is allowed to consume them while on the train.

So seeing how nice and efficient this 1 example is, HI is once again a cluster fuc*.  Good way to make $ is also having a vending stand there.  HI is unique as we allow "blind vendors" at the airport.  In the mainland, blind vendors are not at the airport.  The reason why HI allows this is because we don't have truck stops like how the mainland has.  Those vendors in the state buildings are blind vendors, at the airport selling sundries, HPD HQ next to firearms PTA area/special duty, all blind vendor program.  There is also a huge waiting list.  So by adding these at the rail stops, would open up probably 10 more spots.

And it's not like HI is restroom friendly either.  In Taiwan, almost every 7/11 has a public restroom. There's one on every other corner.  So 1 could easily find a restroom on their way to the train station.
