We'll just pass on the losses to the few law abiding citizens we have left in this doomed country!!

There's too much liability involved in stopping shoplifters if you aren't part of the loss prevention team -- assuming you have one.

The employee could be hurt or worse.

Intervening could put other employees and customers at risk.

The employee could injure the crook and create legal concerns for the store.

If it's just shoplifting, I'd take some video for evidence and possible identification.  I'd also say something to the manager (unless it's me  :geekdanc:) and call 911.

The stores have insurance to cover theft losses.  Who is going to cover the lawsuit against the store and the employee if (1) the employee made a mistake or (2) put the shoplifter in the hospital?

There's right and wrong.  But then there's the crazy, stupid, litigious country in which we now live.

Ever watch the Pacino movie And Justice for All?  One case going on in the background was a purse snatcher who severely injured a woman when he grabbed her purse, but she wouldn't let go.  The criminal' defense was he only wanted to rob her, but not to hurt her.  Her injuries were basically her fault for not letting go of her purse.

It's a lot like that all over now.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

So I guess we just have to put up with this bullshit and pay for this type of behavior?  ??? Not me!

This the consequences that liberal judges and juries over the years have done.

NYC subway good samritan was NYC's last hope of stopping a bad guy from harming others is a recent example. Now some guy comes to a public area filled with people and yells "i dont care, im taking all of u with me" wont be stopped. Wait till terrorist later capitalize on this. I mean its not like the above event happened where 9/11 took place...

Everyone makes mistakes.  This woman admitted she just "lost it".  Of course.  It's really hard for people of good moral character to just stand there and do nothing.  At one time the teachings of our parents come into play.

But the teachings of right and wrong became replaced by the "I'mma gonna get some" by some people who feel they are "entitled" due to their ancestors being in chains.

They forgot or don't possess the intelligence to know that 2 wrongs don't make a right...... ::)
