My takeaway was that he recognized that people in his circle mean well but that they have become guilty of virtue signaling and hypocrisy.

In my opinion the anti Trumpers and the Trumpers are both bad.   They are the extremes. They should be in the middle and judge Trump based on his words and actions. I think Trump has done good and bad.  Also everyone believe in the justice system.   I personally think Trump is a criminal.   The actions on Jan 6 and after are illegal.

What illegal "actions' did Trump take on January 6th, 2021?

And don't say things like, "He incited an insurrection."  That's not an action -- that's an alleged result.

Example:

ACTION:  He ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle.

RESULT (Not an action):  He caused a car crash.
               * There are many actions that could have caused the car crash --
                 a distracted driver, swerving into another lane without signaling, etc. *

Hopefully that example avoids the regurgitation of Liberal/Democrat/Anti-Trump talking points.

When the Normies finally wake up there will be hell to pay. Hopefully our nation can hold together in spite of the coming chaos.

Amen brother but good like finding friends in that circle. If you are a centrist/middle/objective then both sides will see you as the other side. To the far left a centrist looks like he is on the right and to the far right a centrist looks like he is on the left.

I don't think Trump broke the law on Jan 6th though, at least not from the evidence I have seen, so I disagree with you on that point.
