Question for those in the know.  Because I don't know honestly.

There was a large body of water available during the Lahaina fires that didn't need the States permission.  It was the ocean.  Right there.  Free water.  Albeit salt water but I'm sure it puts fires out just the same?

Our fire fighting technologies and strategies cannot use the natural resource of the ocean?

Sure, the nature of salt in the water would probably wreak havoc on the pumps and equipment but in situations like what happened in Lahaina who gives a shit.
There are salt/ocean water fire fighting systems. However they are very expensive and need a TON of maintenance. Encountered this in my work, looking at fire protection systems for waterfront facilities, including fueling terminals. Where bringing water from land side was expensive due to the length of line needing to be routed. But analysis was that the cost and reliability of the land side water won our overall.

Two state governors (HI & NM) now think there is an emergency proclamation exception to the Constitution.

I guess COVID lockdowns, mandates and proclamations were a training exercise for tyrannical governors.

Nobody saw that coming!

We saw with Ige that he used the ability for 1 to "freely travel between states" during his proclamation for covid. Yeah, 1 can freely come to HI, but you cannot leave your hotel room for 2 weeks.

Now we see green making the area a no go zone unless you meet his standards for having a reason.  I wonder if there was a fire and only 1 home was burned, would that person be banned from the state to not visit said home, or even be on the public sidewalk that is 10 feet from their home.  So what makes multiple homes any different?

Commie's doing commie things again. SSDD.

I can see authorities restricting access to areas that might be unsafe or still in the process of being searched for remains and evidence.

I was in an apartment building that literally exploded one morning, and we were kept out for 3 days until the city engineers gave the all clear, just to ensure the remaining structures were safe to enter.  Even after that, there were guards keeping anyone not registered as tenants out to prevent looting.

That was private property, but the same justifications should still apply whether it's a single family dwelling, an apartment complex, or an entire town.

What they ought to do, given the magnitude of the fire and the lack of information released, is organize a couple of tours for small groups of journalists and photographers to visit the area.  Have some people keep an eye out to make sure everyone is safe.  advertise the dates and times of the tours, and make the schedules convenient -- not just Wednesdays between 11:30A - Noon.

For some reason, the state thinks they can only do either-or, not both.

I can see if somethign is unsafe like your apartment building may collapse.  But you were able to at least be on the sidewalk and see the building.  These people cannot even enter into the general area.  IMO this is nothing more than the HI gov flexing power and enjoying it.

If you allow government to break the law for an "emergency" they will create "emergencies" to break the law.

This is just an opinion and my observation about Oompah Winfree.
Personally, I despise her for what she is doing on my home island of Maui.
I spoke to our neighbors and business owners in the area and they hate her more than me.
The basic problem is money and how she uses it to buy people and land.
She is also expert at manipulating the media.

A few weeks ago, Oompah visited the emergency shelter on Maui.
She had her own photog to make sure she had pictures of her putting a pillow next to a guy who was passed out on a folding cot.
The footage was provided to HNN and aired. It paints a picture of Oompah as a compassionate savior.

There are multiple problems with that.
1. It is in poor taste (possibly illegal too) to allow photography in an emergency shelter. Why?
When a public building is commandeered to become an emergency shelter, it's not public any more.
It has become a private bedroom and living room for displaced people.

2. She and her entourage should not have been anywhere near sleeping people.
Again, her money and influence allows her to do whatever she wants to do.

3. HNN should not have allowed that footage to air.
I used Facebook to admonish them
