This video is in poor taste in my opinion. If my town burnt down and lost the lives a 100 neighbors the last thing I want to hear is a presidential candidate using the tragedy to gain political points.

Trump actually does care about people, unlike Mr. Empathy with no comment.

I'd rather have a billionaire talk show host with her film crew show how empathetic she is on her part time residency on Maui....

Why do you think Trump really cares?

Why do you think Trump really cares?

The evidence has existed for a very long time -- long before he ever decided to enter politics.

Do some research.

It's not just my opinion if it's backed up by his actions -- and the fact he never publicly recounts these events out of humility.

I don't really have an opinion because I simply can't tell the difference between Trump doing things to help others and Trump doing things to help himself. To me he is a bit of a narcissist however that doesn't mean he will never do good things simply because they are good. Plus, if Trump really cared, I think he would have skipped the political shots.

I just wanted to hear why you thought he cared.

I don't think Biden has no care for the people of Hawaii, I think he didn't hear the question or hear it correctly. With all the negative things that can be said about Biden I think it is a stretch to suggest he cares zero if 100 people die in a fire.

The president is supposed to address the nation in a crisis, not take 3 vacations a week.

So, you can have an opinion that trump is only using the Maui Wildfire as a political opportunity, but you have no opinion as to his motives when he says and does other things that are obviously helpful to others -- but he might be doing them to benefit himself even though he doesn't talk about them publicly?

Funny how you can read his mind sometimes, but not others.

i think you nee to check your bias against Trump at the door before judging his words and deeds in these matters.

Also, when asked about whether Biden would share some details on his upcoming trip to Maui, he had a similar answer:  "No. Not now."  Why would anyone want to know why he's going and what he plans to accomplish?  Silly reporters -- asking such stupid questions!

I'm pretty sure he heard the question both times.  You seem to be some sort of mind reader, explaining things for us that contradict the reported facts.

I think he did. (hear the question).  Saying stuff like "no comment" or "no, not now" or similar is not something you say when there is a human disaster.  It is cold and insensitive.  This is something you would say about the issue of inflation, or the national debt, or the defense budget.

Like it has been mentioned earlier in this thread, how hard is it really to say something like "Our prayers go out to the family and community of Lahaina" or "I will do everything in my power to get them aid and relief as soon as possible".

A leader shows empathy, even though he might not at the moment know what the course or direction of action might be  This is a human crisis.  Kind words from the leader of our nation gives hope in a desperate situation more than anyone knows.

This is why I have no faith in our POTUS.  He showed insensitivity in the stupid Afghanistan withdrawal and he is showing it again now.

That's why your statements fall apart. You said you don't have an opinion then in the next sentence you give one.

Fair enough, not well worded on my part.
What I meant was that in response to Flapp's examples of why he said Trump cares, I have no opinion (because of the reasons I gave)

On this specific video I do have an opinion

I don't have much faith in Biden either but I judge each instance individually and when an old man gives an answer like this, I feel the best thing to give him the benefit of the doubt given hearing tends to go at older ages.

I don't think Biden is a psychopath.

Please point out where I said Trump made this video only as an opportunity to score political points. There may very well have been an honest heartfelt message there, but it is harder to trust when he throws in political jabs.

What I was saying that using a tragedy like this to make a political jab is in poor taste, not something a true leader should do. He should have made the heartfelt message and left out the political jabs.

How many times did we here chide the left for bringing up gun control right after a shooting (using tragedy for political gain) and now we are going to excuse Trump for doing just that? I think we should have more than paper thin convictions.

Please point out where you stated any reason other than "political points" prior to your lame excuse to cover for your inaccuracies (I didn't say only. )

You are the one who didn't say he was motivated by anything other than politics.  It's obvious what you meant to say -- and you said it.

Maybe you think others can read your mind the way you read Trump's and Biden's?

Honestly I don't think he is one either.  But I do believe he lacks many characteristics of a good leader.

His attempts at humor fall flat or is interpreted as creepy even though even I will agree he did not mean it.  He just lacks the skill to not realize it.

And in this particular case, his choice of words in response to the Maui disaster.  I believe he did hear the question but his answer choice was horrible.  I believe he isn't "quick" enough to realize how insensitive his remarks were.  I'm sure he meant that there is no clear response plan or something like that but the statement was rightfully interpreted as insensitive and uncaring.

And when I say he wasn't "quick" enough it's my way of being nice in saying he lacks the skill as an empathetic leader.
