They sure sounded tough before they got rammed.
Of course they played the victims...

Like one commenter said, putting hundreds and hundreds of people in danger of the 110 degree heat sitting stuck in their vehicles is not the right way of holding a protest.

There's a right way and a wrong way of doing things.  Even when protesting.

Don't know much about the Burning Man festival but it's held in the desert, far away so noise doesn't bother anyone.  Just a bunch of people acting stupid, probably doing borderline illegal stuff and letting off steam.

I think the protestors were protesting capitalism's failure to address the ecological breakdown due to climate change.

Were they mad because the festival attendees don't clean up their shit? (literally) besides the trash.

I would have had someone with a trailer hitch hook it up and drive it 5 miles into the desert -- with all the chained protestors screaming the entire way.

People screaming, "This is a democracy!  We have a right to protest!" don't get it.  The people clearing the road are not the government.  They are other members of that democracy who want to exercise their right to use public roadways.

F**k their protest.  When it's us against them, accusations that we are violating their Constitutional rights won't protect them.

I don't know what type of policies they have over there but I don't see how he can justify pushing the trailer like that or pulling his gun. (Unless I missed something)

Numbers.

When you're outnumbered and the group screaming and cursing at you are getting worked up into a mob, your safety is uncertain.

Rittenhouse was attacked by angry mobs who thought someone said he shot someone.  No facts or rational information, just "someone said."

Mobs don't need much of a reason to become life threatening.

It’s the tribal police. This was tribal land, so they don’t have to follow the same rules. Probably knew he wouldn’t get any negative blow back.

I always say we as a society started spiraling hopelessly down into the depths of hell once OJ got aquitted.

People started thinking they could literally get away with murder after that fiasco.

He wasn't by himself, there were at least two other cops from what I could see.
None of them were violent or armed with anything that I could tell
None of them were exhibiting aggressive behavior that I could see
If one of them escalates then the officer can escalate.

Plus that was bad tactics and safety. He ran up pushing that lady to a prone position with his gun drawn and in her general direction. If someone is that big a threat that you need to pull your firearm the last thing you do is close distance like that, especially with the firearm drawn. What if she had grabbed the gun? What if the crowd rushed him? His gun should have been in his holster if he were going to go handcuff her.

As for the trailer that seemed needless. Not only did he damage the vehicle, but what happened if he hit the trailer and it spun around or some piece shot off and hit someone nearby? There was nothing in the video that justified ramming the trailer. His overall demeanor looked like he was losing his temper and is not good policing.

I was wondering about that, being a tribal police would provide some level of protection but I don't know how far up that goes.
No one appeared to have gotten hurt or unjustly detained/arrested so there probably wouldn't be any grounds for a big dollar lawsuit.

However even if legally justifiable, it was still bad tactics though

I don’t think he damaged his truck. Look at the bumper. I have something like it on my truck, a Ranchhand designed to be able to hit a deer at 60mph without damage to the vehicle.

Protesters in general are insane.  Ask them what they are hoping to happen, and they give vague, general wishes as opposed to real, articulable actions.

"We just want to raise awareness" is their normal response.

Careful what you wish for.  The people you inconvenience are very aware of the cause ... of their inconvenience.

I'd have to watch the video again but it looked like the front quarter panel got damaged. Could have been previous damage too.

Thousands have left the event due to massive flooding which turned the desert into a giant mud field.

After dealing with the delays caused by protestors, this would just be the icing on the cake.

From the video, it appears some are not going anywhere for the time being.   :'(
