You want fries with that?
« on: August 29, 2023, 12:51:17 AM »
i know it's been over a year since i had fast food regularly, at least often enough to notice the prices.

Last month, I thought I'd try some of the new places and some old places' new menu items that i've not had.

OMFG!!   :wtf:

It cost me about $15-$22 for a meal, and that includes the "Combo" discount.  i'm old enough to remember the "Burger, fries and drink -- and change back from your dollar" ads from Mc Donald's.  I'm not expecting that, but jeezus!

BTW, Jack's spicy chicken strips are literally smokin'!     :geekdanc:

Hard to spend that kind of money when a plate lunch is cheaper.  Burger King has the highest prices I've seen.

Once in a while I'll get Arby's 2 for $9 beef and cheddars or $1.50 Costco hotdogs.

Yep.  Fast food, along with everything else under the sun, is getting ridiculously expensive.

But I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I went to McD's to order a Big Mac meal.  It was Big Mac Mondays and you get a free Big Mac with the order of a Big Mac Meal.

But still.  Combo meals are expensive and is it just me or the burgers are getting smaller? ???

I used to go to Kim Chee 2 regularly but lately prices are super high.  their kalbi plate is like $34.  last night I got the combo plate was $14, so not too bad.  I just don't order the kalbi anymore
or Superpho Vietnamese restaurant across the street used to be fairly cheap 10-12 bucks per plate, now its $20 per plate

In Vegas the Burgers cost more than $20 in places that have celebrity names attached to them.

Cooking your own meals can be a fun and rewarding hobby. I like making my own food because you can control everything...kind of like making your own ammo.

I might have one expensive meal in Vegas when I go, usually a $300+ event for 3 of us.

Not paying $20 for a burger when there are better things available.

Normally i don't pay for food -- just use comps or coupon books with a vacation package.

Yeah, paying for a burger that's in the mid-twenty dollar range is a stretch although most of them are works of art.  Some are so pretty that you almost feel guilty deconstructing them to eat, lol!

But most of the time, the burgers are not that much different than the primburger you'd get at any Zippy's, minus the lipstick and mascara.  The primeburger at Zippy's once was considered a pretty good value meal but not anymore.  Everything has gone up.

Yeah the coupon book Vacations Hawaii gives you I always end up not using all of it.

Most of the time it's because I like eat somewhere else instead of eating at the same places.

It's difficult to justify overpriced corporate fast food when there are so many good hole-in-the-wall establishments that give way more value.
Why mess around with Rat in The Box when I can get a giant slab of real meat at Ray's?
I try to balance my budget between home cooking and supporting the little restaurants.

Just saw last night there's a class action lawsuit against BK.

Complaint is that the pictures of the Whopper they use in stores and ads show a burger/patty that is as much as 35% larger than what they actually serve.

Quote
A judge ruled last week that Burger King must face a class action lawsuit accusing
the chain of false advertising, joining the ranks of other fast-food giants like McDonald's,
Burger King and Taco Bell.

The latest in a line of similar legal actions, the lawsuit was originally filed in March 2020,
alleging that the burger chain falsely inflated the size of their signature Whopper
sandwiches in promotional materials.

The suit claims that Burger King made Whoppers appear twice as large as they actually
are in advertisements, while the actual burgers served to customers are 35% smaller
than those marketed.
