ASP Bibles & Bullets Conf 2023
« on: August 30, 2023, 07:33:39 PM »
I signed up for the Active Self Protection - Bibles and Bullets Conference hosted by John Correia and Flint Hills Foster Camp.  This is a weekend of self -defense training on Sept 29-Oct 1st in Manhattan, Kansas.  Lead national instructors volunteered to teach classes in self-defense tactics, OC spray, handgun, psychology and many others.  This will be my first time attending, third for Soleil.  I forgone the option to sleep in the dorms and will instead be pitching a tent under the stars

The conference costs $600 which is fully donated to the foster camp and space is still available.  I got a rental car and an extra tent for anyone that wants to join us.  https://activeselfprotection.com/asp-national-conference-bullets-and-bibles-2023/

Here's the class options.  Some beginner, some advanced.  Class registration just started so I'll see what I get in a couple weeks.

Got my confirmed classes approved.  How it works is you choose up to 6 classes for each time slot, and they try to accommodate everyone's schedule within the class limitations, especially when it comes to live-fire.  For example, my first class, Range Readiness, was my last choice and is a class for basic beginners.  Disappointing, but it's good for instructors to learn from other instructors on how to teach a beginning class.  I'm satisfied with all the other classes I got into.

Friday AM: Tim Reedy Range Readiness
Friday PM: Trauma Medicine in a Hostile Environment - Brian McLaughlin
Saturday AM: The Inner Game of Shooting Mini Class - Brian Hill
Saturday PM: Mental Management, The Roadmap to Success - Christopher Bean
Saturday PM 2: Broadening the 2A Tent - Aqil Qadir & Howard Marbury
Sunday AM: Close Quarter Pistol - Chuck Haggard
Sunday PM 1: Overcoming Challenges - Jamie Green
Sunday PM 2: The Mind Game - Jamie Green

Tim Reedy – Range Readiness

This is a beginner class. Only basic familiarity with firearm safety and your handgun is required.
This four-hour class objectives are to confirm:
* The safety of your handgun and holster combination.
* Your ability to effecvely load, unload, and reload your handgun.
* Your ability to SAFELY draw a handgun from the holster
* Your ability to meet minimum accuracy standards with a generous me limit
* Your ability to SAFELY return a handgun to the holster (Reluctantly, Gently, Slowly)

Brian McLaughlin – Trauma Medicine in a Hostile Environment
If you’re going to learn the skills to punch holes in people, you need the skills to patch holes. This class is intended for anyone who is interested in the basics of trauma management in a high threat environment. Combat is a mul-faceted endeavor which involves many disciplines including trauma medicine, a skill that extends outside the normal self-defense encounter to countless other forms of emergencies.  Learn how to properly apply tourniquets, chest seals, and other life-saving tools while in a hosle area and manage a casualty unl EMS and/or law enforcement arrives, and how to improvise if you have no medical gear available.  Finish the course with a Stop the Bleed cerficate and the skills to save a life.

Brian Hill - The Inner Game of Shooting Mini Class
There are 3 modes in which an individual can pracce: Speed & Efficiency, Accuracy & Precision, and Performance. People typically pracce the one mode in which they are already proficient, which means they never achieve Performance mode. In this session, you will learn drills, parameters, and measurements, so that you can confidently perform in each mode on demand.

Christopher Bean - Mental Management, the roadmap to success
A more advanced class related to the applicaon of tools within a mental management system to improve performance and crush goals. Fulfilling potenal by understanding how our thought processes impact our development and help or hinder our performances.

Aqil Qadir & Howard Marbury – Broadening the 2A Tent
Research shows that human beings are tribal by nature. We can’t help but gravitate towards people who remind us of ourselves. But have we taken this natural tendency to a counterproducve extreme? If you’re a firearms trainer, a gun-industry product vendor, or a Second Amendment advocate of any kind, then you can’t afford to idle in your social or polical comfort zone. This session will take an honest look at how the pro-gun community can become less insular and reach audiences beyond the echo chamber.

Chuck Haggard – Close Quarter Pistol
Working on the zero to 7 yard problem

Jamie Green - Overcoming Challenges
Join us as we address the concerns of aging, injury, or impairment and how they might affect your shoong.
If you have ever le   the range frustrated with your progress or maybe even considered giving up the sport of shoong, then this class is for you.  There are many ps, tricks and devices available to us in our modern world so let's explore the possibilies together!

Jamie Green - The Mind Game
Do you have your mind right when it comes to your self-defense plan? This class will explore several ways the mind must be engaged from acceptance of violence, recognizing and having a plan, then taking a deep dive (while in a safe, controlled environment) into the “Can You’s” we may be confronted with.

Caught my flight to Kansas City, MO and drove 2.5 hours to the Flinthills Teen Foster Camp.  Nothing but corn fields and cattle here.
