What have you used/owned and your experience?

I've used the TNVC PVS14 and 31, white unfilmed.  I haven't shot with it yet, but I've used it for hiking, work, and driving a golf card.  The white phosphor is a big improvement over the greens I used in the Army.  It makes it easier to see and more enjoyable to use.  The dual tubes isn't worth the extra cost at nearly 3x the price of a single.  I can do everything fine with the single tube, and sometimes having an unaided eye is better in mixed lighting.  The dual tubes could be worth it if you use it all night, use it for professional work, or drive a vehicle.  Otherwise single tube is fine for most civilians.

I am concerned about digital night vision making my analog NVG's obsolete.  Digital is still at early Gen 2 levels right now, but it is evolving quickly and it has the potential for color.  Still going to be 5 to 10 years for digital to get close, but when it does the price of analogue NVGs will crater.

Have you tried applying for a SWAT assignment?  I bet those guys get NVGs as standard issue.

Ok, here is my experience, my son got one of those toy ones which uses the infrared LEDs. Maybe not a true NVG but fun to play with.
A guy I worked with showed me his cheapo one (gen 1?) and it wasn't very good. I did try on a gen 3 once and it was amazing but just so pricey. I was thinking maybe a gen 2 would be good enough.

useless tool

I've tried gen 1's and then the one that Zipps had (he let me try) and the huge diff was the depth perception.  With Zipps one, I could also see much more clearer in an open field. Like I could see the leafs on the tree.  The gen1, I could barely see an army man figure about 4 feet in front of me. It was very grainy.

IMO, if you're going down this rabbit hole, save money until you can buy the good stuff. Buy once, cry once.  Unless you really want something and don't mind upgrading later.  Your money.

It’s a dual eyepiece but only one tube, I got it for a little under $2 k it’s pretty sweet and fun to play with my friends all have monocle style and if I had to do it again I’d go that route. The monotube with two eyepieces make it almost impossible to aim passively from a rifle, from a pistol works great though lol
My friend has gen 3 white phosphorus and it’s definitely clearer, but it also cost like double what I paid 🤷‍♂️ so for me it’s good enough to have 2+ since we just screw around with it sometimes. It’s definitely an expensive toy though lol
Just checked seems the stuff I got isn’t made anymore similar is 2,600-3,000ish so I’m glad I got mine a few years back lol

Used a pvs14, not shot with it yet, just hiking up koko head once, walking around beaches at night, star gazing, having something to larp around when the power goes out and i want to do random stuff, used it to wow friends. Want to get duals for driving but my schedule does not allow me to drive with my night vision anymore and frankly I don't want to chance a cop hidden well enough where I cannot see them while driving blacked out, my vehicle isn't dark so it would be very easy to see with a slight use of light (standard positioning of reflector marker on vehicles make it easy to see a vehicle as well). No airsoft cause I am to scared to get my 14 laser burned and cause my AEG is broke. Maybe scholfield rod and gun club in the future could do night shooting, don't know how that would turn saftey wise. I know range control is there late at night.

Comparison pics tonight of my PVS14 TNVC L3 unfilmed white phosphor.  It was a full moon and the non-nvg pics are about right of what I've seen.
