A couple of takeaways we can probably count on:

The perp did NOT have a concealed carry permit.
They didn't say, but its a good chance it occurred in a "sensitive place" No guns allowed.
The firearm in question was not legally obtained, and probably not registered, at least to the shooter.
Purely conjecture cuz nobody is talking, the Perp was probably a prohibited person.
This was not a random thing. The shooter and shootee were acquainted and had issues.
Oh, and the shooter needs practice. He missed.

They want to paint law abiding citizens that choose to legally CCW (despite Hawaii's despicable gun laws) as criminals, the same as those who choose to disobey laws, which in my opinion is the case here.

They know the people involved were not law abiding CCW citizens.  So no media coverage.  Move along, folks, nothing to see here.

I agree. I would think hard about even going to a gun shop in the area.
That said, yes... omission in the news is a powerful tool.
I would love to be a fly on the wall in the back room where what goes or doesn't is decided.

You are right about the bad places in this state OF. I would not go there on my own.
Even the so called good parts of the state are questionable especially at night.
I would hope that a few brave reporters would seek out help and apply for a CCW
but that would absolutely be dream world stuff.
