Joe Biden being there giving some unintelligible speech accomplishes nothing. It is pure symbolism and I don't subscribe to symbolism. He lied about going to the sight the day after the incident anyway. How long is a president expected to show up for this type of thing anyway?

Plus I bet that if Trump skipped it almost everyone here would be defending his choice not to go.

Trump would never miss a 9/11 memorial visit, because he understands the significance of these events after living near and helping at ground zero.

Your hypothetical is unprovable, since it would never happen unless the world was about to implode.

I just wanted to use this post to clarify my position on this subject matter.  I know I bash biden a lot and I don't hold back my dislike of him as our POTUS.

So whether it is Trump, biden, or any other person in the POTUS seat, they should show up to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

I would have laid into you just the same.  This is just me and how I feel.  The victims of the 9/11 attacks were civilians, and first responders.  They were not combatants.

How long should you show up?  There is no answer.  But as long as a wife, father, daughter, son, brother, sister, and family and friend grieves, the nation should be there for them as long as possible.

Yes, there might be times a POTUS might have to pay his tribute in absence.  But from Alaska on a layover where it's possible he might even have forgotten?

C'MON MAN........!!!!

They sent VP Hyena to Ground Zero in NYC;  She did a photo op for about an hour, then left for her flight back to DC in the middle of the victims' names being read.

Talk about no respect.

You're pretending all incidents of violence or natural disasters that result in a few hundred dead are all the same.

No I am not, they don't even need to be the same for my point to ring true. That is why I mentioned natural disasters, wars, and terrorist incidents to cover every basis.

As to your other point about other incidents where large numbers have died, where is the line then? What number of people needed to die for you to say the president must attend a memorial there every year? And for how long?

Seeming how he was there on day 1 as a non politician to help, i would give him a pass.

Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

I would give Trump a pass too because for me it isn't about politics but ideological consistency. I didn't complain when Trump missed the WW1 memorial and I didn't complain when Biden missed 9/11. I don't complain if current presidents don't visit Pearl Harbor every Dec 7th either. If you'll recall I even stated Biden shouldn't have showed up to Lahaina.

That is a fair answer, there is no right question on how long a president should show up to a memorial. To me, after 22 years, I don't expect him to show up. For the first few years I think it absolutely reasonable for the president to show up. Now if the president was playing golf instead of showing up I would have my criticisms but if he was half way across the world conducting important business, then I would give him a pass. Vietnam may turn out to be an important piece in the puzzle keeping China in its place so I think he was justified for not being present this year.

However I have one question, if Biden had shown up and given some speech about how he knows how people feel because he once lost at Jenga when his tower fell too (hilarious Babylon Bee headline) or something equally as dumb would that be preferable? He would have been attacked anyway.  He doesn't have the mental faculties to do these things anymore.

I also read she had one of her uncontrollable laughing fits that seem to be the norm lately, no matter where she is or what business she is conducting.

Very inappropriate given the solemn setting of the event.  Any outburst of laughter will be misconstrued as disrespectful.  Can't she control her hyena outbursts to just a smile?  Damn........

And that's fine.  Perfectly fine.  I gotta go back and research to see about this outburst of laughter that I know I read about somewhere but failed to take note to remember.  My bad.  One of my shortcomings I still need to work on improving.....

If so that is unfortunate but at least understandable.

TBH, the majority of the "dignitaries" appear to be at a cocktail party exchanging greetings and funny stories as opposed to the reason they are supposed to be gathered.

https://www.wcbm.com/2023/09/11/kamala-harris-smiles-and-giggles-at-9-11-memorial-ceremony-video/

Remember in Silence of the Lambs, when Agent Starling accompanied Agent Crawford to a funeral home to examine the remains of a victim?  Crawford made a comment to the sheriff that he didn't want to talk in front of a woman, so they stepped into another room leaving Starling surrounded by a bunch of male troopers and deputies.  Later on the drive home, she asked him about it, and he said it didn't mean anything -- he was just trying to get on the sheriff's good side.

Starling responded (paraphrased), "Those other officers look up to you to see how to act.  What you did matters."

That's what happens when you get people in the top office of the land who don't understand that they represent the nation.  instead, they seem to be living the life on the backs of tax payers without a care in the world.  if she'd been more reserved and serious, I guarantee the rest of the dignitaries would have taken their cue from her.  I remember more than once Bill Clinton getting caught telling a joke and laughing at a serious event, and as soon as he saw the camera, his smile instantly morphed into a frown as he stopped laughing.  At least he understood what was the appropriate behavior even if he couldn't maintain that facade the entire time.

These are the same people who claim anyone they disagree with is "out of touch".

Thank you for sharing this.  I also agree that people in high office or held in high regard do set the mood in times like these.

With that being said, it didn't look like Kamala was out of line as much as I was led to believe from another article I happened upon.

As I called it, she was there for a photo op -- just to be seen publicly for a short time so the pundits would be placated.

Too bad she is never able to grasp the emotions of anyone other than herself.  Their behavior reminds me of a bunch of elementary school kids gathering in the auditorium for picture day.  Get a bunch of them together outside the classroom, and they don't know how to act.
