Anyone do hot bluing for firearms?

Wondering if any of the LGS or gunsmiths on Oahu do hot gun bluing?

I know that I can go to a LGS and pick up some bluing in a plastic bottle, but I really want
a deep blue and a professional job.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The bluing process, like chrome plating, electro polishing and anodizing, which services were available on this island, required large tanks of chemicals. When the EPA got strict on disposing of these chemicals, the chemicals had to be shipped to the mainland for disposal. That is expensive, so no more chrome plating, electropolishing, anodizing and I guess bluing shops on the island. I'm not sure how those businesses were disposing of the chemicals before the EPA stepped in, but it probably wasn't environmentally friendly.

A lot of places have had to stop offering it because of the environmental regulations. If you're still set on getting a professional bluing job and can't find someone on the island, it might be worth considering shipping your firearm to a trusted service on the mainland. In the meantime, if you’re looking to fix up or replace any parts yourself, Every Gun Part is a good place to check out for replacement parts or even project guns to experiment with.
