I'm gonna have to use the popular "swooosh" term here. Of course character matters. Maybe I didn't word my post well enough.
Your post was worded fine. You never once stated, implied or in any way eluded to anyone's character not mattering.
Your post was about personality, not character.
Personality determines how a person is perceived by others -- i.e. how likable others think you are.
Character has more to do with morality and integrity.
You can be be the coarsest, most abrasive and least likable person on the planet, but if you conduct yourself with integrity and a deep sense of what's right and wrong, your character should be judged favorably.
For instance, the guy in accounting might be the least friendly, most opinionated and least sociable person at work. But, if his values keep him honest and his work unimpeachable, then his character is beyond reproach regardless of his personality.
