So Bruddahs, when we going do our job?
« on: October 03, 2023, 12:14:23 PM »
So as you all probably know, Keven McCarthy has been ousted as Speaker of the House.  The pro tem speaker called for a recess and the future of congress is anyone's guess.  Check out how the pro tem speaker slams the gavel down.  I thought Thor came down from the heavens, LOL!  He is a staunch supporter of McCarthy and obviously pissed off at a congressman named Gaetz.

Looks like the real work at hand ailing our country will be further kicked down the road.......

The House voted to eject Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as leader Tuesday,
making him the first speaker in history to ever be removed after just 269 days
at the helm, following a rebellion among far-right lawmakers that serves as the
latest example of the deep divisions within the Republican Party.
Quote
Eight Republicans—Reps. Matt Gaetz (Fla.), Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Ken Buck (Colo.),
Tim Burchett (Tenn.), Eli Crane (Ariz.), Bob Good (Va.), Nancy Mace (S.C.) and
Matt Rosendale (Md.)—voted alongside all Democrats present to remove McCarthy,
who will remain a member of Congress despite his ouster from the speaker’s office.
Quote
“Chaos is somebody who we cannot trust with their word,” Gaetz said on the House
floor Tuesday. “I think $33 trillion in debt is chaos. I think that facing a $2.2 trillion
annual deficit is chaos. I think their not passing single-subject spending bills is chaos …
the way to liberate ourselves from that is a series of reforms to this body.”

i agree with Gaetz when he says we need to stop these omnibus spending bills year after year.  Nobody, even with a half dozen staffers, can do a deep dive into a more-than-5,000-page spending bill in the short time they are given and know how they should vote.  It's a "take it or shut the government down" proposition every single year.  No debate or revisions offered since nobody knows what's in the bill except how much they each get for their individual states.  That's all that matters -- pork for the next reelection campaign.  Look at the ads from our own Congress-critters touting how much money they "procured" for Hawaii.  Knowing that is all borrowed deficit spending is just sickening.

The Swamp is a non-partisan group.  Anybody putting their personal wealth and career ahead of the country's best interests is accepted.

This could backfire in the 2024 elections where we lose the presidency.  Gaetz is a Trump supporter but Trump criticized the move today.

I don't see how this benefits us since we don't control the presidency nor senate.  It's not a good time to do something like this with the small republican majority in Congress.  Should wait till 2025 to make those big changes

I see a worse spending bill being passed with democrat support which defeats the purpose of this.

45 days clicking away.

CR's are becoming the norm and has been since the 90's.

Sad state of affairs.  Instead of fixing our nation they will now be pre-occupied with finding a new Speaker.

What's nuts is McCarthy can throw his hat in the ring again when the nominations start.

What really is going to be nuts is if he somehow gets re-elected.  Again.  By making deals.  Again.

And again.  And again........Wasted time.  Wasted money.  Swamp gets bigger, deeper, and stinker.

Meanwhile the can got kicked so far down the road nobody can see it anymore.  So they go ahead and pass another CR.......

edited to add:  Just read a Newsweek article stating that McCarthy will not seek the Speaker position anymore.

There's no one else that can be voted in as speaker.  That's how it was when McCarthy was voted in, just barely after weeks of chaos.

It will be chaotic in the House and democrats will use it to their advantage in 2024.  That's why all the democrats voted with Gaetz to oust McCarthy.

Gaetz essentially was working for the democrats in a way

The uniparty got a kick in the nuts today, and while that's an excellent turn of events it's no cause for celebration.
Right now they are reeling with rage and terror trying to figure out how to keep their Ukranian money laundering scheme going.
Most Americans are tossing out their yellow and blue flags after realizing it was just another con job.
The populist revolt is picking up momentum, and now we wait to see what kind of "emergency" comes up next in order to try and stop it.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

Actually, Gaetz is working for the people.  He showed the GOP that a weak majority is no majority if they are unwilling to act differently than the Democrats.

IMO, it's McCarthy who's been working for the Democrats.  That's why the effort to impeach Biden has been moving like cold molasses.

The Dems were impeding Trump at every turn, most immediately by beating him to death with records requests in the FBI/Mueller Russia3 probes/investigations/hoax.  So far, the House Republicans haven't done much to curtail Biden and the Ukraine spending.

if mccarthy were working for the dems, why did they all vote to oust him?

(kind of a rhetorical question, i guess. because they voted to oust him to cause chaos and make the GOP look bad...)

Pretty confusing to me as to how the democrats are maneuvering through this.

Somehow I was thinking, what would really make the GOP look bad and dysfunctional is if the democrats actually foiled the attempt to oust McCarthy by voting to keep him Speaker.

Somehow make it look like the Dems are the adults and the GOP are the pouting mid-teens throwing tantrums.

But we all know the Dems hate McCarthy and their minority leader put the word out to oust him.

We the people are the losers.  I understand where Gaetz and those other 7 or so Republicans are coming from but I wonder if this is the right time to be doing this.  One can argue that this is as good a time as any to stop irresponsible pkg. deal budgets where one can hide all kinds of BS in the 1000's of pages of the Bill and have only a day or two to vote on it.

I do wonder about McCarthy's trustworthiness but Gaetz is no Boy Scout either.

When he was placed there, some GOP members didnt want to vote for him. Which is why it took so long. They then casted yes, but told him he was on a short leash to prove hes not a RINO. IIRC, bohbert was 1. She mentioned no more 5000 page bill with hidden, non related things.

She voted not to oust him.

The same reason the Dems always vote as a block:  they were all told to.

If your question is why would they do decide to do that, because they are trying to stoke the fires of disorganization and use it to their advantage in the election.

What has McCarthy done since becoming speaker to disprove my theory?

I’ll take a little chaos if it means change for the better. The establishment uniparty is what is killing this country in the first place.

The abysmal 2022 election for the republicans was a blessing in disguise. If Mcarthy had more support he would’ve never agreed to terms that curbed his power. They’d be voting on one massive spending bill that benefitted no one but the elites.

I 100% Back Gaetz.

Seems more like Gaetz is upset he isn't getting everything he wanted. He is letting perfect be the enemy of good. McCarthy was seeking to cut government spending of about 8%. Maybe not ideal but still decent. Now the House will be in turmoil again when it tries to pick another speaker and democrats will use that to their advantage. Great going Gaetz...

If a wide open border, 33 trillion in the hole, and pending nuclear confrontation with Russia are "good" then give me whatever the opposite of that is, please.

Take the abortion issue for example. The hard core want a complete ban on elective abortions. The moderates want a ban after the first trimester. Don't cooperate and you get no restrictions at all and the end results are more abortions than either side wanted.

An 8% reduction in spending does more to reduce the debt than does anything the democrats would do. Not sure what Russia has to do with this, that gorilla is looming no matter what we do.

The political chess game being played out right now goes way over my head.

I really appreciate all you guys input whether for or against what is happening now.  It helps me try to make sense of it all.  If one ever can, really.

But yeah.  Interesting.  I'm really concerned about that can they kicked way down the road.  I read somewhere a comment that said that congress is the only job in the world where you can put off important issues for another day.  And another.  And....yeah, it's a great job.  Try doing that in the private sector.

So all congress does is agree upon another CR......
