Yep.  Worrying about re-election is more important than serving as a congress member and administering your oath of office.

There is one congresswoman that already declared she will retire and not seek re-election in 2025.  She said Congress is Broken.

No sh*t, Sherlock.

That's been my complaint since I started watching politics.  Our "representatives" start their reelection campaigns the day after they are sworn in, if not on election night.

It's one reason incumbents are so hard to beat.  They are campaigning for money from day one.  Unless a challenger is independently wealthy and using their own funds, newcomers have an extremely low chance of winning.

Money wins elections, and incumbents raise the most money 9 times out of 10.

With no GOP speaker, woul dthis mean that the budget bill to Israel and Ukraine is on pause?

From my understanding, based on political experts, it does seem like this would stop funding bills. The interim Speaker might be able to get the bills passed though, I don't know if there are any limits to his authority beyond a regular speaker

Patrick McHenry, Republican of North Carolina, is now the speaker pro-tem.
Under the rules, he is limited in his powers and likely unable to conduct any
normal legislative business. His primary task is to organize the election of a
new speaker. If an impasse over choosing someone for that position ensues,
the House could grant McHenry time-limited authority to preside over debate
and votes on ordinary bills. That, however, would take a majority vote.

As the debacle drags on, McHenry looks more and more pissed off.  He's a staunch ally of McCarthy and was so pissed about what happened.

I loved the way he slammed that gavel sending congress to "cool off" after taking the helm.  He was so mad he looked like he wanted to fight everyone.

For all we know he would be a good speaker of the house.  Usually the ones who don't seek the limelight are the ones who are the most effective.

I hope Liz Cheney gets the seat.   She's a real republican.

There was no Muslim Ban.  It was a temporary stand-down barring immigration from initially 5 mostly Muslim countries where known terrorists trained, were supported by those countries and home to some of the worst terrorists to strike around the world.

Later, the list was lengthened and included non-Muslim countries, such as North Korea, Venezuela and Chad.

It was never a full-on ban, it was not permanent, and it never once mentioned the words Muslim or Islam.  The purpose was to give the State Dept and Homeland Security a window to reevaluate what current policies and procedures can be improved upon to better ensure our borders are protected against terrorism.

Is it any wonder the corrupt government now says domestic terrorism is our #1 threat to security?  Takes the focus off the actual sources of terrorism.  Anybody remember the "Shoe Bomber,"  "Underwear Bomber," and other Islamic terrorist trying to down commercial airliners?  The successes were limited, but not for a lack of trying.

So it was Mccarthy sabotaging the process all along so that he could weasel back into position.
Because of him it took 3 weeks instead of 3 days. This is a great victory though and was well worth it

And now the time has finally arrived to...

This is a pretty huge win. We’ll see how it plays out but for now the swamp is in deep trouble
