And most of you that argue here don't shoot / train - just collect ...and argue

I resemble that remark
Pretending to be offended does not make you a good person.

Show me any bank or other lending institution that will take a borrower's word alone for the value of a multi-million-dollar property.

The insurance companies as well.

None of the banks or insurance companies loaning Trump money on the properties or covering it for losses has complained that the property is over-valued.

So your argument is that fraud is only illegal if the banks and insurance companies complain?

And even if the government doesn't prosecute because the banks didn't complain, what does that say about Trump? Do you see the irony of this defense? It basically admits he is a liar and corrupt but says it is ok since no one complained. And this is the man you want to lead this country?

I swoosh your swoosh.

Even if having no one complaining and thus you don't have the elements of a crime, you still have Trump admitting to behavior undesierable in a president.

#doesnotunderstandwhataboutism so I guess I am in good company then.

You are sidestepping the fact that this defense illustrates how Trump is a slimy liar. I don't care if he is guilty of this or not, what it says about his character is enough. Ignore it and support him anyway if you like, you get to vote the way you like.

Have you ever  stated the value of something and it wasn't for market value? Does this make you a liar?  Trump isn't an appraiser or a professional who knows the exact value of properties.  He does know more than the regular person though.    Re-read what flapp posted. It's the job of the bank to verify what is stated by a person is accurate or not.

Square footage is not a subjective matter like value is.

Here in Hawaii we have a law that makes it illegal to lie about the authenticity of an item for sale. Basically if I tell you I have an autographed original of something but I lied about its authenticity then I have committed a crime. The law does not put the burden on the buyer to double check the authenticity first. Now if I sell you something fake and you don't care then the criminal case really wouldn't go anywhere. Now this might be a good example of why this is a politically biased prosecution but valuing a property for a loan is a bit more complicated with more repercussions so it may not be a fair comparison in evaluating legal defenses.

Having said that, there are two facets to this.  The above is the legal facet, whether criminal fraud or civil fraud was committed. The other facet, that you are ignoring and that I am concentrating on, is that the behavior still makes Trump a bad person. If I am playing sports and I cheat to get an extra point but the extra point has no bearing on the outcome of the game I am still a cheater.

That example doesn't work.  What you would have had to say is that HI has a law for selling something for more than it's market value, which we don't have. But thanks for playing.

Trump isn't a professional, even with sqft.  The lender would have to verify it if it's that important by sending out a professional to verify the sqft and correct as needed. 1 cannot just rely on blue prints either as whats on paper can also be wrong. I mean are you expecting Trump to go and measure the property and not even be 1ft off?  Cause whether he's 1 ft or 1,000,000 ft off, it's still not correct and you would think he's a fraud. Same goes with getting an expired meter ticket, 1 minute or 10 mins after the meter expires is still a ticket. Or 14ft away from a corner instead of 15ft. Or if cops were to enforce mag limits. 15rd mag pistol mag or 30rd pistol mag, are both the same level of illegal.

Trump isn't a saint.  I dont' expect any billionaire to be one either.  I would even call him an asshole at times, but he's the asshole we need that got stuff done. But this is just based off of his TV show and public appearances.  I have never met him, so maybe this is his persona he's portraying.  But from people who have been interviewed that have met him (regular folk), they all said the same thing "he's a lot nicer in person than what they thought".  And of course the fake news never aired this interview again. 1 was for the VEgas shooting when he visited the hospital, another was when he visited the veterans hospital, another when he was ordering burgers in Boston (IIRC).  Or would you rather have a nice guy who shits on this country?

There is no actual formula for assessing the value of any propoerty.

For most properties, you have to factor in "location, location, location."

A property would have to be compared to other properties with a similar size, age and amenities, all within the same general area.

How easy do you think it is to find another property that's comparable to Trump's properties (known for their lavish luxury), in the same general area, WHICH HAVE RECENTLY SOLD??

Good luck with that assessment!

If someone thinks square feet is the end-all, be-all of this issue, they need to try doing a market survey themselves.  It's really not that difficult or time consuming ... for residential properties or areas where business properties change hands relatively frequently.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
