Sounds to me like you're just projecting your opinion of your own shortcomings onto others.

I'm starting to think it's the rest of us that need to be concerned whenever you show up for competition!   :shake:   :geekdanc:

I was wondering this for some time now. So the repsponse is "CMO, it's fine. No worry"

Soooo. . . you zeroed your rifle based on a known hold over at 10 yards?  Prob "guud enuff" for shooting the in the distances in the action bays. . .

Yup. Holes in paper goes exactly where they should be when I was zero'd for 50. Dot sits the same on irons. So yup, guud enuff.

CMO handles his shortcomings whenever he takes a piss...

The USPSA and other like competitions are good to go through, especially to grow self-defense skills.  90% of people that buy a gun for self-defense have no clue and believe just taking the firearms safety class is good enough, much less hunters ed.  USPSA probably saves more lives in defensive encounters than it takes from accidents, though I'm not saying USPSA is in anyway unsafe.  The competitions teach a lot of things that people don't practice or realize they need like:
1.  Speed and sense of urgency
2.  Using cover
3.  Recoil control
4.  Gun safety when moving and operating it
5.  Malfunction clearing
6.  Thinking and operating under stress
7.  Doing multiple things at the same time
8.  Awkward shooting positions

It's a good learning experience and people know what they need to improve on.  It's important that people know it's still a game and gaming the system.  Like knowing you usually reload behind cover and not on the move.  Or shooting off balance leaning out from cover.  Or identifying a threat and being aware of innocents around.

Safety - The competitions are very safe for what it is.  The courses of fire are set by USPSA and extensively checked for safety.  The rules are strict and classes are required before shooting a match.  New shooters (and old) make mistakes and it is better they make those mistakes on the range than in a defensive shooting.

For unsafe guns, they're supposed to be drop tested and still follow specs.  The enforcement mechanism on that is a ND will result in disqualification and being sent home and no competitor wants to do that.  Using reloads doesn't make a difference whether it's USPSA or shooting bullseye pistol.

For a more realistic experience, IDPA stays truer to the self-defense philosophy with more realistic scenarios, rules, and production pistol and equipment requirements.

A good example of a USPSA competitor in a defense encounter is the Las Vegas incident.

Thanks for the offer, but this isn't my style of shooting.  I don't got patience and too much caffeine in the veins.  Which is why zeroing a rifle at 50 yards, I hate to do. Bascially just get gudd enuff so I can go home. Tangerine grouping with a red dot is guud enuff.  For my last RDS zero on my rifle, I didn't even go to the bench side. I know my hold over is at 10 yards and just did that.  Too humbug to bring my target stand, wait for cease fire. Take 5 mins to zero and wait for the next cease fire. Add in the cardio of walking 50 yards multiple times.  Plus I know where my dot sits when my irons are up.  Worked fine for a few skill builders before the range bays were closed.  I had my RDS on for 4 years with no loctite and it finally came loose. So now I loctited it on.

Sandbagging is a legit strat in any division based competition. If you have a reason to complain about it, most likely you should be sandbagging into a lower division. lol.
