Their opinions are not uncommon.
Most people are unfamiliar with firearms, how to safely use them, and how simple they actually are to operate with less practice than driving a car.
What they do know of guns comes from the media, movies, politicians and their peers.
We tend to fear things we view as dangerous and do not fully understand.
Then there's the "I guess that's how i was meant to die," belief. I saw an interview with a man (soy boy) who was attacked in his own home and nearly killed. This made the news because the assailant was set free.
When asked if he's going to change anything knowing the criminal is out there -- such as buying a gun -- he said, "Absolutely not." He's 100% anti-gun, and in his mind, he's more likely to use it on himself or a friend or family member than the criminal.
He said he would be a hypocrite if he armed himself since he thinks all guns should be banned. He doesn't think he could force himself to pull that trigger if he had a gun -- potentially taking another person's life.
He said he'd rather be killed than kill another human being.
