2010 Shooting Sports Fair...
« on: June 19, 2010, 01:01:15 PM »
...is going on RIGHT NOW!  Until 4pm today, and 9:30 - 4pm tomorrow.  Kokohead Shooting Complex.  If you've never been, you need to go.  This is "THE" annual shooting event on Oahu, with about a dozen clubs running shooting venues.  Also events for the kids, including casting, BB guns, archery.

The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Sounds like it was a lot of fun. Magnum User from FH had a great review:

It was More crowded this year.

Sunday was waaaay busier than Saturday.

We at the LIFE tent ran out of 223 and had to get another Case from private stocks.

Almost ran out of 30-06 for the MG and Garand

Went thru over a dozen boxes of clay targets.

Ran out of hearing and eye protection. Resupply from closests City Mill.

My thumbs almost don't work. I was busy loading 22 mags for 2 tables. Savage bolt 22(ejection problems), GSG, HK, SW15-22, Ruger semi auto 22 pistol and 10-22 and a few more. We ended up with about 100 rounds left of several 1,ooos.

22s get Dirty real fast. Many of the 22 semi auto long guns were Malfuntioning a lot. HK, GSG, AK look alikes were all having problems.

In the end, the only gun shooting reliably was the SW 15-22.
AFAIK, none of the guns were cleaned at all. Some were spray lubed to help keep them going.

Nobody brought the PPSH 22 clone to shoot. I wanted to try it out.... maybe next time one of the members will have one.
I think it looks good and with the 50 round drum, a great home defense gun. Short, easy to handle, no recoil, over penetration less than regular calibers, loaded with mini mags.......
Don't know of anyone who wants to get shot with 50 rounds of 22 HP.

Lots of kids were having a good time with 22 bolt gun. Had one teen age boy come back at least 5 x.
I was asked by parents to recommend a young kid's first 22, suggested Marlin Papoose, nice single shot with short stock and barrel. Great for a young boy or girl.

BTW, one of our new LIFE members is a nice girl whose Dad bought her a Pink AR. He also showed off her new Pink gripped SA 22 magnum. She likes it, Daddy will buy it for her. Soon to be a new LIFE instructor, I hope.

I understand that the 375 H & H magnum was very popular over at the rifle side.

So was the 1919 semi auto MG and M-1 Garand. Heard some Looong strings from the MG. Some guys were going for it.

Heard people were buying over $100 of scrip at once. Think $160 was the most single sale.

FYI: Beta mags are legal in Hawaii, IF you own a Mini-14. No handgun version. Per member who has 2 and test fired both. Lucky the Mini didn't melt. 0 malfunctions.

I was worn out by mid afternoon. And I came just before lunch.

A Great time was had by All of us at LIFE and by the comments I heard, so did the public.

Hint for Next Fair. Come early, bring eye and ear protection, money and shoot everything and anything that catches your eye.
