I have some Vista stock, gotta check how it is doing. It went up a bit then back down since I bought some stock but haven't checked recently. That is big news though as I think they make at least a half dozen different brands.

I don’t think they bought the factories here to export ammo/primers to Europe right?

If they wanted to sell ammo/primers to Europe, Wouldn’t it be easier/cheaper to buy/build a factory someplace there where land and labor are cheaper and not have to deal with the US government and shipping across the pond

I’m guessing it’s profit driven to buy factories here.   Americans and the US government buy a lot of ammo

No matter where they manufacture cartridges, they need to buy and probably import components.  So, if it's easier and/or cheaper to get the primers and powders, it might actually be better to manufacture in one country and export the finished product to others.

We are a pro-gun nation (less and less, but still ...).  Imagine how much more expensive, how restrictive, and possibly how many limits there may be in anti-gun countries making it more expensive and more difficult to get the parts you'd need.

However, I have a feeling you're correct in that it's cheaper and easier to manufacture in the US than pay the tariffs and deal with restrictions trying to export to the US.  Car makers like Toyota and Honda built plants to assemble cars in the US to avoid the import limits and tariffs.

What are people saying nowadays?  Stack it deep?

Used to be "Buy it cheap and stack it deep".

But nothing is cheap anymore.  Heading for some interesting times.  Again.

After 6 months, why is this news drawing the attention of the Wall Street Journal today?

https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/foreign-purchase-of-u-s-ammo-maker-sparks-national-security-battle-db31490d

Sorry for the pay-walled link, but this is a Rupert Murdoch owned company. In the capitalist world, ammo is a commodity, and like a lot of other products, it gets outsourced to foreign manufacturers. We probably agree that this is a national security issue, but why didn't Mike Johnson take care of it with hearings? The National Police Officers Organization and many other groups are against the takeover. Whose pockets are being lined to get the domestic business possibly gutted?
I found a more recent article (about a month old) that is not pay-walled-
https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/vista-outdoor-urges-mnc-capital-increase-offer-price-3-bln-bid-2024-04-22/
Since VSTO is still trading this morning, I hope there is a deal looming that would protect U.S. interests.

Hawaii is an exception, most of the Toyota's here come from Japan. Guess it's cheaper to do that than to send the ones made in the mainland to HI.

Acutally that is partially True.

The Toyota Camry and Tacomas are built in the US

as Totyota expands their Assembly line and force their subcontract suppliers to move to the us, more and more models will be assembled here.  Some Components are pre built in Japan.

The Full EV:  BZ4X comes from Japan as the US Factory is NOT yet up and running.

Both the Crown and Lexus might still be Japan exclusive
